Once a month, we all are invited to have dinner with neighbors at various churches and community centers around Barrington.  It’s called “The Community Meal”, the food is donated by local grocery stores and restaurants and there is no charge to attend.  The first Community Meal of the new year is coming up on Thursday, January 24th, 2013.

About a dozen Barrington-area churches are committed to participating the Community Meal, which is run by volunteers and made possible by generous donations of food and time.

Post 300 - Community MealIt was founded in 2009 by a woman named Mary Hasse-Sandner after she attended a leadership retreat, at age 22, hosted by Lutheran Church of the Atonement.

The mission of the meal is “To encourage & strengthen friendships, share kindness and inspire hope in the community by the simple act of sharing a meal together as neighbors.”

The next Community Meal will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 24th, at Salem Methodist United Church, 115 West Lincoln Avenue.

They will be serving several varieties of homemade soups and delicious homemade desserts prepared by community volunteers.

The Community Meal currently serves the communities of Barrington, Carpentersville, Lake Zurich, Palatine, and Cary, and we hope to continue expanding.
