An educational yet entertaining evening left Barrington residents wanting even more at this week’s 2014 National Night Out.  Or maybe they just wanted some more of those delicious burgers and hot dogs provided by Heinens Grocery and grilled by Barrington’s own police and fire chiefs!

Everyone had a great time during this annual summer night out focused on public safety demonstrations, strengthening community spirit and generating support for local anti-crime initiatives.  Barrington’s annual event takes place on Cook Street and is scheduled to coincide with a Thursday Cruise Night.  Reporter James Owen and filmer Tommy Derken were there to catch all the fun and excitement on camera for 365BarringtonTV.

Nice job grilling Barrington Police Chief Dave Dorn, James – no pun intended 😉 – and sweet moves on that hula hoop, Tommy!

Our crew says watching Maxx the Police Dog put on his show and the Barrington Fire Department tear apart a vehicle were such a blast! Children enjoyed games, a face painter and an opportunity to ride on a trackless train.  In keeping with the public safety theme, nurses from Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital fitted children for free bike helmets and drug awareness and K-9 demonstrations were among the many highlights.
