All are welcome to come out and taste “the Southwest’s best kept secret” at Heinen’s Grocery in Barrington from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday. They’ll be firing up their roaster outside the store for a two day Hatch Chile Roast and serving samples throughout the store of dishes prepared with hatch chile peppers.
Grown only in the fertile Hatch Valley of New Mexico, Hatch Chiles are considered by chile aficionados to be the best roasting peppers in the world.
They are truly delicious, with a distinctively robust and earthy flavor not found in any other chile. Hatch chiles are large, thick skinned, meaty and come in a variety of heat levels to suit every chile-lover’s craving. Try them in rellenos, burgers, omelets, hot dogs, burritos, tacos, on pizza, corn bread, cookies, sauces and seafood. But they’re only available for a limited time!
Heinen’s store manager Mark Vrtacnik calls hatch chiles the “pepper of peppers” and hopes you’ll all be able to stop by the store and try their delicious dishes. Pick out your peppers and they’ll toss them in the roaster so they’re ready to be used in your favorite recipes at home or put in the freezer to save for dips for the season of upcoming football watching parties.
You’ll find Heinen’s Grocery at 500 N. Hough Street in the Shops at Flint Creek in Barrington or visit the store’s website at Heinens.com.
