Plaids with polka dots? Floral and stripes? Yes, you can mix these prints and we are encouraging you to try out this trend! We do find that sometimes it is difficult to know when it is ok to mix prints and how to do it successfully, so we have come up with a few guidelines to help you get this trend right on point.
Stripes are the easiest to match with, they almost work as a neutral when it comes to prints. Stripes can go with florals, plaids, polka dots, animal prints and almost any print. Make sure the color of the prints work together. If the colors don’t work together, then the prints won’t work either and it will end up looking mismatched and unpolished.
Match prints together that are not on the same scale, for example, a larger floral print with thin stripes. Keep in mind prints on a larger scale can make you appear larger and prints on a super small scale can be too busy and not very appealing to the eye. Find what prints work best for your body type and focus your outfit around that print. Choose one print to be the bold print and the main focus. You want the other print to complement that bolder print, not compete with it. We love plaid this season and it is a great print that can work back with stripes, polka dots and even animal prints!
If you are uneasy about mixing prints try easing into it by breaking up the prints with a solid piece like a jacket or belt. Another tip for beginners is to add a leopard print bag, belt, scarf, blouse or shoe to any print for a classic and sophisticated look.
Don’t be shy this season and freshen up your look by mixing prints that will take your outfit from ordinary to extraordinary!

Along with our Monday Barrington Style posts at 365Barrington.com, we’re running a weekly contest with a $25 LUXE wearhouse gift card prize on the line, inviting readers to share their personal style questions. Here are a few of your fashion questions from this week, along with our replies…
What’s the best way to cover a post baby tummy without always going with a Baggie top?? – Jenna Zilka
Fist of all, we would like to say congratulations on your newest family member! We know that those months post baby can be hard and covering up post baby weight and still looking and feeling good about yourself can be tricky! We love a baggy shirt or sweater because it is comfy and it conceals a tummy but its not the most flattering look. Try pairing a loose fitting T-shirt with a more fitted cardigan or casual blazer. This allows us room to feel comfortable in our stomach area but still shows off our shape. A loose fitting printed blouse is another great option. The print can take focus away from a problem area. Another good idea is to try a wrap style shirt, sweater or blouse. The wrap or faux wrap look is such a flattering look and is such a great option for concealing a tummy.
What is the best looking jacket and dress skinny pants that you can get? Need to look great for a holiday party!! – Kim Mirski
Right now we are loving any style moto jacket weather its faux leather, wool or cotton. This style is our go-to for a jacket this season. It is so versatile and can be worn with almost anything. For a dress pant we love a skinny black ponte pant. It looks great on and is so comfortable! It really redefines what we think of a black dress pant! We also love a skinny faux leather legging with a longer jacket or sweater for a fun and trendy holiday look.
