Hours before the start of the community’s 4th of July Parade, runners hit the streets of Barrington for Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital’s annual July Fourth Family Fitness Run.  The 5K and 10K run/walk starts on Main Street and this year’s event was the 20th annual race to kick off Barrington’s 4th of July festivities.

We had a beautiful morning and a great crowd for this year’s race. Participants enjoyed the challenging and scenic courses. Runners who took part also helped benefit the arts in Barrington since proceeds from this race are donated to the to support the Barrington Cultural Commission.

For the first time this year, there was an 11 and under age group in this Saturday’s July Fourth holiday race with a participation award for ALL runners age 11 and younger!  There were also awards for the top 3 male and female finishers in the 5K and 10K races in the following age-group categories:

Under 11 (5K Only) | 12-14 | 15-19 | 20-24 | 25-29 | 30-34 | 35-39 | 40-44 | 45-49 | 50-54 | 55-59 | 60-64 | 65-69 | 70+

The race kicked off at 7:15 with an 8:15 a.m. awards ceremony so runners could have a little down time before returning to Main Street for the start of the parade at 10 a.m.  Now that’s what I’d call a healthy way to start a holiday!!!
