This week in Barrington Street Style, I chatted with long time Barrington resident, Jamie Gray. I love Jamie’s simple and classic style. But more than just her spot-on style and gorgeous looks, Jamie’s outlook on personal style is even more inspiring to me.
Jamie is inspired by Leandra Medine, fashion blogger best known for her website Man Repeller, a hilarious fashion blog you must check out. Jamie is not inspired by Medine’s actual style but by her attitude towards style. Inspired by Medine, Jamie has adopted this attitude in her personal style asking herself the question, “What will I think of myself in this outfit?”
Instead of getting lost in the possible opinions of others, Jamie focuses on how it will make her feel and who she will become because of it. I really admire this trait in Jamie. I think if more people could experience this freedom of expression in their style, we would live in a far more colorful world. On Jamie’s wrist she has a tattoo that reads “free”. After chatting with Jamie, free was the word that was in my mind.
Jamie is wearing a black collared shirt dress. It is shorter in the front and falls longer in the back. She is dressing up her look by adding some chunky JCrew jewels and a rose gold Fossil watch that she wears daily. To finish off her look she is wearing leather Aldo boots. As an artist, Jamie sees her style as an extension of her art and personal branding. She makes conscious style decisions to be herself and to reflect her artistic style through her clothing and accessories. Jamie studies marketing at Columbia College and works as a freelance photographer and art director. She currently resides in Chicago, IL.
