It’s the start of September, the kids are back in school, the weather is cooling and that can only mean that the annual Art in the Barn Fine Art Show is near! The area’s most highly anticipated fall art festival is coming up on Saturday and Sunday, September 24th and 25th, and they will be featuring more artists than ever before in the historic barns on the grounds of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.

The Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital Auxiliary is celebrating Art in the Barn’s 42nd year this month with 180 artists to display their works in many different genres including fine art in oil, watercolor, pastel, drawing, acrylics, fiber, glass, photography, digital media, jewelry, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, scratchboard and wood. Carefully chosen by a team of jurors, all participating artists generously donate a portion of their sales from this event to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.

From 10:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m. on September 24th and 25th, artists will be exhibiting and selling their work. With the feeling of fall in the air, there will be music and entertainment, a variety of foods and children’s art activities, a local student art gallery, petting zoo and more. This year’s food vendors include MJ’s Coffee, Kountry Kettlecorn, Mr. Funnel Cake, The Great Grape,  Riverside Chocolate and a Brat Tent sponsored by Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital…

Art in the Barn - Petting Zoo

Art in the Barn is one of the major fund-raisers sponsored by the Auxiliary of Good Shepherd Hospital, which has donated millions of dollars to the hospital over the years. The fall art festival began in 1974 when a group of ten women and local artists came up with the idea to help raise money to build the hospital here in Barrington. It started as a show with 30 artists and has grown to over 170 artists displaying their works for sale with over 7,000 visitors expected to attend over the two day event.

The art is featured in barns that were once used as food testing sites when the hospital property was previously owned by Quaker Oats.  Over the years proceeds from Art in the Barn have helped fund hospital improvements, programs and scholarships for students entering the medical field.

You’ll find Art in the Barn on the grounds of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital at 450 W.
