One of the benefits of volunteering is that it gives your the opportunity to try something new and gain new experiences. Barrington Area Volunteer Connection (BAVC) has over 90 nonprofits on its platform giving adult volunteers many opportunities to find an opportunity to do something to learn outside your professional field. For students, volunteering may help direct you to what you want in the future and also give you a different perspective. Below are a few of different opportunities BAVC has currently open for volunteers:
Garden Volunteer Needed!
Barrington United Methodist Church produces between 20 and 30 thousand pounds of fresh vegetables which are distributed to 7 local food pantries. For the 2024 season, they have already planted 4,000 seedlings! Volunteers are needed to help maintain and harvest the garden. The garden team works early weekday mornings and Saturdays after 10 a.m (Hours can be flexible).

Therapeutic Equine Activities Barn Volunteer
Walk On Farm is looking for volunteers (15 years and older) to work with their staff to build a team that helps care for our horses, prepare the horses for the lesson, and assist the instructor during the lesson as well as a variety of additional barn tasks. Walk On Farms will provide training.
[Program volunteers commit to a specific shift for the duration of the 8 to 14 week session, which allows the same team of horse, rider, instructor, and volunteers to work together to achieve the rider’s goals.]
Whether you are an enthusiast with many years of horse experience or come with no experience and would like to learn more, go to the volunteer page for Walk On Farms to see all the opportunities that are listed!
