If you’ve always wanted to get a close-up view of a live polo match, here’s your chance!  Barrington Hills is home to one of the Midwest’s finest polo clubs and next weekend the club is hosting the 6th Annual Kalaway Landowners Club, Chicagoland’s biggest polo event of the year.

The Kalaway Landowners Cup will take place next Saturday, September 11th, at the Oakwood Farms Polo Field at 250 Deepwood Road in Barrington Hills.  The day’s events will start at 11:30 with a performance by  The Fox River Valley Pony Club followed by the Fox River Valley Hunt’s “Running of the Hounds”.  The National Anthem with Mounted Color Guard will take place at noon, “Battle of the Sexes” polo match at 12:15.  The Lake Run Clydesdales will perform and give rides at 1:15 and the Kalaway Landowners Cup Polo Match starts at 2PM.

There will aslo be prizes for the “Best Tailgate Theme” and “Best Ladies Hat” contests.  It’ll be fun to watch the crowd partake in the traditional “Stomping of the Divots” – just like they do in one of my favorite scenes from the movie, “Pretty Woman“.  And it’ll be a must to make a trip to the Clydesdales beer wagon during halftime.

The tournament was founded as a way to say thanks to local landowners who allow riders access to the riding trails on their properties. The price of admission for Saturday’s event is $15 per person and there’s no charge for young children.  If you’d like to reserve a field side tailgate parking spot which includes tickets for six people, the price is $75.  For more information or to reserve a space, call John Rosene at 847-854-1415 or you can purchase tickets at the entry on the day of the event.  For more information about the sport and the club, visit BarringtonHillsPolo.com and stay tuned for our “Barrington Polo Part II” post where we’ll profile some local players in the coming days right here at 365Barrington.com.
