142. Don Your Derby Hat for Barrington Children’s Charities
Dust off your derby hats and spruce up your seersucker suits, Barrington Children’s Charities’ second annual Run for the Roses Kentucky Derby party is coming up this Saturday and we’re all invited. Barrington Hills resident and Children’s Charities founder, Darby Hills (seen here on left), says there are fun new details in store for this year’s festivities, thanks, in part, to Kathleen McLaughlin, the local event planner behind the party.
Kentucky Derby-style hats in all shapes and sizes will be a big part of the entertainment at this Saturday’s event, held to benefit Barrington Children’s Charities and the national Blessings in a Backpack campaign. All proceeds from this weekend’s party will directly benefit Barrington School District 220 families who are part of the free and reduced lunches program……

292. Meet "Taco" – Barrington’s Award Winning Horse
The new year is off to an exciting start for our friends at Walk On Farm in Barrington. It’s a riding center devoted to making life easier for people with disabilities and one of their therapeutic horses named “Taco” just won a prestigious Equine of the Year award!
The North American Riding for the Handicapped Association, or NAHRA, gave Taco the award for the region that includes Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas. The trainers at Walk On Farm say Taco is very deserving.…

159. Barrington Hills Polo Part II
There’s a certain mystique about the sport of polo that has always made me curious, especially since it’s played right here in Barrington. So I recently stopped by the Barrington Hills Polo Club’s Oakwood Farms field to check out a scrimmage, learn more about the sport and meet some local players. My husband, two kids and I pulled our car into the farm’s drive and right on up to the side of the field where the players’ families were parked and out picnicking. It was a regular Saturday morning scrimmage, it was a beautiful day and I was struck by how much these players seemed to love the open space, fresh air and the thrill of their fast-paced sport.
