161. “Guess Where Wednesday” & Last Week’s Winner

It’s Wednesday and that means it’s contest day here at 365Barrington.com. We’re happy to announce the winner of last week’s challenge and we also have a new mystery photo and a great prize for this week’s winner. So let’s try this again.  Can you guess where in Barrington this picture was taken?

This is the Eden Palais Carousel at the Sanfilippo Estate.  That’s the Barrington Hills home of the family that founded John B. Sanfilippo and Sons, Inc., the parent company of Fisher Nuts.  The European salon carousel was built in 1890. Several different owners toured France with the Eden Palais from 1890 through 1959. It was later owned by a family in Colorado and another family in Montana before the Sanfilippo’s foundation acquired the Eden Palais in 1987. They meticulously restored the carousel and built a building to house it in 1997 where they now host gala charity fundraisers and guided tours. Which brings me to the prize for this week’s mystery photo.

This Week’s Prize

For the winner of this week’s contest, The Sanfilippo Foundation is offering two tickets for a private, three-hour, docent-guided tour of the Sanfilippo Estate. That includes viewing and hearing the foundation’s incredible collection of beautifully restored antique music machines, phonographs, arcade and gambling machines, chandeliers, art glass, a mini-concert on the world’s largest theater pipe organ and a visit to the Carousel Pavilion to check out the Eden Palais in person. This is an awesome tour and is a very special opportunity.
