There are only a few days left to vote for who you think should win the Village of Barrington’s annual scarecrow design competition. So we have time for one last Spot the Scarecrow mystery photo contest. One Barrington business designed their scarecrow with a Ride for 3 Reasons theme this year in honor of Bob Lee, who is wrapping up his 2,000 mile bike ride down the Pacific coast this week.
If you can guess outside what Barrington business we spotted the 3 Reasons scarecrow, you’ll have a chance to win a prize linked to the place where we took the picture. Take a minute to look for the clue you’ll find under his armpit. You can greatly increase your odds of winning just by picking up the phone ;)!
Bob Lee is getting closer, but he has yet to reach his goal of raising $1 Million to support initiatives related to cancer, ALS and Hospice end-of-life care. He still has to raise about $100,000 in individual donations to unlock $200,000 of matching funds that have been pledged to the cause if Bob can reach his goal. Bob says every little bit helps and he’s looking forward to visiting with supporters at his welcome home party, which is coming up from 4 to 5 p.m. at Good Shepherd Health and Fitness Center on Saturday, November 3rd. To learn more about the ride and support the cause, visit 3Reasons.org.
And if you know where we took the picture of this week’s 3 Reasons scarecrow, all you have to do is enter your guess below for a chance to win. But first, we just drew the name of last week’s winner and it is……
It’s Wednesday and that mean’s it’s contest day here at 365Barrington.com. We’re playing another round of Spot the Scarecrow this week. It’s our usual mystery photo contest with a fall twist. For a chance to win, all you have to do is tell us where in Barrington we spotted this scarecrow tribute to deceased diva, Whitney Houston. A local business designed her for the Village of Barrington’s annual scarecrow competition. Can you guess where she is?
If you can tell us where Whitney is perched, you have a chance to win a prize worth $60 from the business who designed her. Whitney is one of dozens of scarecrows hanging around town these days. Voting for the Village of Barrington’s annual scarecrow design contest is underway now. You have until October 31st (Halloween) to cast your vote by CLICKING HERE and they’ll announce the winners on the Village web site on Thursday, November 1.
And you may still wondering where we took this last Spot the Scarecrow mystery photo……
With this week’s mystery photo, we want to see how many of you really know the Barringtons because it’s pretty hard to miss this giant orange smiley face if you’re driving past one place that’s pretty popular this time of year. I cropped the photo to try to fake you out, but this one might be obvious. Can you guess what it’s a picture of?
If you correctly guess this week’s mystery photo, you have a chance to win a prize linked to the place where we took the picture. So good luck with your guessing and we’ll let you know the answer when we reveal our new mystery photo on Wednesday of next week.
Now for last week’s mystery photo. This one was a stumper! For the first time in the history of our Wednesday mystery photo contests here at 365Barrington.com, no one submitted a guess. So it’s my fault for being difficult. I just couldn’t help but share this image I recently took while on Park Avenue after I recently spotted the same building in an historic photo of downtown Barrington. The initials, E.C. Groff, and the year, 1907 are rusty reminders of years gone by.
Several different businesses used to be housed in this building. Does anyone remember when it was the old Ben Franklin store? I love how the facade of today’s McGonigal’s Pub building (off in the distance in the photo below) currently looks as it did so many years ago when it was the First State Bank of Barrington……Continue Reading
I was inspired to mix a little Barrington history with our mystery photo contest after sharing our story about Sam and the history of the Bread Basket earlier this week. You’ll get a little clue to this week’s mystery photo if you take a closer look at that feature. This might not be a very revealing photo, but the building holds so much local history. Can anyone guess where I was standing when I took it?
If you can guess where I was standing, the business you’ll find in this building today or the bustling business that used to occupy the building in the 20th century, you could win this contest! The prize is something linked to the place where I took the picture. I’ll admit, you might have an advantage if you know your Barrington history. But, either way, we hope you’ll venture a guess, which is easy to do using the comments box below.
In the meantime, we drew a name to pick a winner from last week’s mystery photo contest and the winner is……
It’s time for our regular Guess Where Wednesday mystery photo contest and, this week, we have a theme. The Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting their 9th annual Taste’fest & EXPO on Thursday of next week. So I decided to snap a photo outside one of the many area restaurants taking part in the big event. So let’s see if I can stump you on this one. Can anyone guess where in Barrington I was standing when I took this picture?
If you can guess where I took the picture and who loves the “Sip Local” message, you’ll have a chance to win two tickets to Taste’fest, and that’s a $70 value! This year’s 9th annual Barrington Taste’fest is taking place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. next Thursday, September 20th, at the Chicago Marriott Northwest in Hoffman Estates.

Entering the contest will take you seconds and we’ll reveal the winner on Wednesday of next week. But first, let’s take a look at who won last week’s mystery photo contest. We must have a lot of sweets lovers in the crowd because we received many guesses last week and almost all of them were right! Except for Kris, the self-proclaimed optimist who guessed that we took the picture of the pastries “in my fridge the next time I open the door.” We love your wishful thinking, Kris! So here’s our winner. We just drew her name and it’s……
If you have a sweet tooth, you’ll definitely have an advantage in this week’s Guess Where Wednesday mystery photo contest. You haven’t truly experienced Barrington in all of its sweet glory if you’ve never been t0 the place where this week’s photo was taken. Can you guess where we are?
If you can guess this week’s mystery photo, you’ll have a chance to win a gift certificate to spend at the place where the picture was taken. And, let me tell you, you will be surrounded by the food of the gods!
(DING DING DING – Voici votre clue de la semaine!)
Entering the contest will take you seconds and we’ll reveal the winner on Wednesday of next week. But first, let’s take a look at who won last week’s mystery photo contest. We had a record number of votes come in last week, with over 50 people submitting guesses. But we can only pick one winner. My daughter drew the name just seconds ago and it is……
I have a quick contest for you this week. It’s another mystery photo that I took of one of the Barrington Area United Way’s horses stationed around town for the Roundup II gala horse auction coming up on Saturday, October 13th. I tried to get an angle on this one so you’d have a few clues as to where I was standing. Can you guess where I was when I took this picture?
If you can guess the location of this week’s mystery photo, you could win a $25 gift card to spend at the place where I was standing. That means you’ll have a lot of choices about where to spend it so let’s just call that our clue for the week!
Here’s how the contest works……
We had a lot of fun watching the guesses come in for our recent mystery photo contest. Exactly two weeks ago, we challenged you to tell us if you know the guy in this picture…
The contest rules were simple: Correctly guess the place where I took the photo and, if you could also share the guy’s name, you’d be entered in our drawing twice. It was a little bit of an experiment and I was excited to see that dozens of people guessed it right!
I was standing inside The Bread Basket restaurant in downtown Barrington when I snapped the picture. And most guessers also knew that the man in the picture is the restaurant’s owner, Sam Nikolaidis. A few of them went a little further, offering Sam a few words of praise with their answers.
“It is SAM at the Bread Basket. He’s a mind reader. When I walk in, he tells me what I want before I even look at the daily specials board. And he’s usually right!” – Eric Hochstein
“It’s Sam from the Bread Basket! My earliest memory is sitting in one of those booths as a 3 year old having a Bread Basket breakfast.” – Nick Sauer
“It’s Sam Nikolaidis from the Bread Basket! He’s my go-to Sunday lunch guy and has been for a long, long time.” – Karen McBride
The Bread Basket has been a downtown Barrington staple since it opened in the 1920’s. We’re going to be sharing more about the restaurant’s history and its menu in the coming weeks here at 365Barrington.com so stay tuned.
We received dozens of submissions in this contest, Sam is buying lunch for the winner, we just drew a name and it is……
We’re adding a little twist this week by making “Guess Where Wednesday” more like “Guess WHO Wednesday”. Why not? We love trying new things here at 365Barrington.com. Plus, when I suggested the idea to our mystery model today, he was all for it! So, for this week’s contest, all you have to do is guess where I was when I took this guy’s picture. If you’ve ever been to this place before, odds are you’ve seen him standing right here. And, if you know his name, your guess counts twice!
This mystery man is a pretty popular guy in town and he’s buying lunch for the winner. So if you know the answer, just submit your guess in the comments box below. You have through Tuesday, August 7th to submit your guesses before we draw and reveal the winner in TWO WEEKS, on Wednesday, August 8th.
And now, it’s time to reveal last week’s mystery photo and announce our winner and her name is……
Who says we can’t play Guess Where Wednesday on Thursday? A special birthday party made me a day late with our contest this week. But we have a cool new mystery photo which might be a little tricky. I was standing outdoors in a very public location in the heart of Barrington when I took this picture. But I zoomed in pretty tight to try and keep you guessing and you can enter yours to win anytime through next Tuesday, July 24th. The top left edge of this photograph might give you a little hint and you’ll find another clue if you read on.
If you know where we took the photo, just enter your guess in the comments box below. The rules are simple and the prize is pretty cool!
But first, it’s time to reveal last week’s mystery photo and announce our winner and his name is……
United Way’s painted horses are back in Barrington and on display at locations throughout the community. They just started putting the horses up and you’ll soon be spotting them all over town, giving us some great “mystery photo” material for our weekly Guess Where Wednesday photo contest. Can you guess where in Barrington this United Way painted horse is standing? Take a close look at the bricks in the background. If you’re super sleuthy, they just might be the clue that gives it all away ;).
“Roundup II” is the United Way’s second painted horse campaign in Barrington. The horses will be on display throughout town until they’re auctioned off to support community causes during the United Way’s Roundup II Gala Horse Auction this October 13th. For more information, visit BAUW.org. If you know where I was standing when I took the horse photo above, just enter your guess in the comments box below. The rules are simple, the prize is super cool and I even have a clue for this week! But first, it’s time to reveal last week’s mystery photo and announce our winner and her name is……Continue Reading
