And they’re off! There’s a brand new nonprofit organization in town, called Barrington Children’s Charities, that’s all about improving the lives of kids in and around our community. They’re starting things off with a bang this weekend by hosting their first annual Kentucky Derby Party in Barrington. I’m told there’ll be seersucker suits, fancy hats and Mint Juleps in the house and the top auction items include a trip to next year’s Kentucky Derby!
They’re also auctioning off part ownership in a 2-year-old thoroughbred race horse, which includes naming rights! So if you love the thrill of the races and would like to meet the founders and friends of this new charity, this is one party that you don’t want to miss.
Barrington Children’s Charities was founded in late 2010 by a group of Barrington residents with a passion for finding ways to help children in our community. They’re run entirely by volunteers and their mission is straightforward and two-fold. “First, we aim to heighten public awareness of children’s issues and foster solutions to their problems. Second, we raise monies to fund a wide variety of important, worthwhile projects benefiting local children.”
They’re off and running with plans for two signature fundraisers each year, the “Kentucky Derby Party” in May and a “Holly Ball” which they’ll host in December at the Barrington Hills Country Club. The Kentucky Derby Party will take place at the Wool Street Bar and Grill in Barrington this Saturday, May 7th, from 2 to 6 p.m.
Tickets cost $75 and you can purchase them online by clicking HERE. You’ll find the full list of auction items being offered by clicking HERE, but they include 25% Ownership of a Bay Colt Racehorse, an Afternoon at Arlington Park Father’s Day Package and an Asha Salon Luxury Package, which would make a great gift for mom this Mother’s Day.
