Barrington’s Relay for Life is just over six weeks away and things are heating up around town this week as the community hops on board the Relay’s “Purple Heals” campaign, starting with a major local shopping and dining event this Thursday night.

If you’ve seen posters with a giant purple heel posted around town, it’s the symbol for “Purple Heals”, a series of three upcoming shopping and social events in Barrington where participating merchants are offering a portion of their proceeds to support Barrington’s Relay coming up in June. But you don’t have to wear sky high stilettos to take part. These events are designed for shoppers and diners to enjoy Barrington’s best boutiques, restaurants and bars while supporting a great local cause. So mark your calendars…we can tell by the Facebook buzz that these events are going to be HOT!…

Thursday, April 26th – 4 to 8 p.m.

Where:  Downtown Barrington

Start your evening with a complimentary glass of wine at Park Avenue Wine Bar, 205 Park Avenue, in Barrington.  Then step out to shop at participating merchants donating 10-15 % of purchases to Relay for Life of Barrington.

Between shops, you might want to pop into SweetPea Cakes for a “purple ribbon” cupcake, with all proceeds going to the Relay.  And how about washing that down with a little limoncello on the house at Francesca’s Famiglia.  They’ll be offering glasses of their popular after dinner drink for Relay revelers during the event.   And McGonigal’s Pub is a great way to end your tour downtown, with a raffle drawing and special Relay celebration.  If you can’t make it downtown, Pl8 at The Foundry, 736 W. Northwest Highway, is featuring a free “Relay for Life Maki Roll” that I hear is delicious!
