Home Newsroom 273. Barrington Bliss & Athena Award Holiday Luncheon

The Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce is kicking off the holiday party season with a snowscape-inspired luncheon coming up at Pinstripes in South Barrington on Thursday, November 15th.  It’s an extra special event this year because, for the first time ever, the Chamber is awarding one woman from our community with a prestigious business honor called “The Athena Award”.  Barrington party planner, Christina Currie, is transforming the space into a scene celebrating winter for the event, with lots of crisp white linens, sparkle and shimmering accents.

“This year’s inspiration is everything white and icy. We will be creating a snowscape atmosphere, reminiscing of building igloos as a child and watching the snow fall at sunrise.  With live jazz entertainment, a special signature drink demonstration and delicious food, this is one of the most attended meetings for Women in Biz Net (and with good reason!).”

Christina Currie of Christina Currie Events also chairs the Women’s Biz Net Council, the party hosts and one of the Barrington Chamber’s most successful networking groups.  “With live jazz entertainment, a special signature drink demonstration and delicious food, this is one of the most attended meetings for Women in Biz Net (and with good reason!).”

But don’t think this event is just for women because men are invited, too and welcome to attend.  After all, guys can’t be excluded from a party at Pinstripes at The Arboretum of South Barrington!  One of the highlights of this year’s luncheon will be the Chamber’s inaugural presentation of the “ATHENA Leadership Award“.  It’s a prestigious international award that “recognizes exemplary women leaders who have achieved professional excellence, served the community in a meaningful way, and most importantly, mentored other women in achieving their full leadership potential.”

Eight women have been nominated for the 2012 Barrington Athena Award and they are:

Kathleen Caldwell – Caldwell Consulting

Bonnie Conte – Avalon Salon & Day Spa

Joanne Dalessandro – American Cancer Society Relay for Life

Jennifer Glacken – Glacken Health & Wellness

Theresa Keenan – State Farm Insurance

Liz Luby Chepell – (That’s me ;))  Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage &

Joyce Palmquist – Barrington Area Council on Aging

Lisa Stamos – Quintessential Barrington Magazine

I was so surprised and honored to learn that I’m among this impressive list of nominated women and up for an award with the name “Athena” in it.  So Cool!

If you’d like to join us, it’s not too late to purchase a ticket.  You have through noon tomorrow, Friday, November 9th, to let the Chamber know you’d like to attend.  The luncheon starts at 11 a.m. and lasts until 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 15th at Pinstripes.  One ticket costs $35 or you can purchase two tickets for $65.

To sign up, call the Barrington Chamber at 847-381-2525 or visit  Hope to see you at the luncheon!

Hi guys! Today's Word of the Day is a total divergence from anything we've covered before -- 鳄梨 è lí - avocado!

That's right, we might just be exploring some foods over the next few days, starting with the beautiful avocado. Incidentally, 鳄 è means "alligator," and 梨 lí means "pear," making the bumpy-skinned Persea americana an "alligator pear" in popular usage 🙃

Oh -- speaking of food -- did we mention that we'll be having a meeting this Wednesday at 4:30? We'll be making fried rice -- you should probably grab those ingredients before they are sold out from all the stores due to popular demand for participation in this meeting! 😂 Recipe can be found on our GroupMe -- message here, email Ms. Stumpf, talk to a friend... the possibilities are endless for you to get the word! 😁
