365Barrington.com’s third birthday is right around the corner on April 1st.  No foolin!  So I’ve been doing some website soul searching here and considering how to better organize the content we’ve created since that April Fools Day, 2010 debut.

As I think about the kind of stories that come from our community, they fall into a few key areas which we’re creating more clearly defined categories for like Barrington EATS (restaurants & food topics), House Talk (our homes),  Smart Moves (our schools), Good Works (causes & philanthropy) and there’s another one that’s very much a part of what we write about.

Our businesses in Barrington deserve our full attention here at 365Barrington.com.  So we’re going to start putting stories related to ways we can support local businesses in a new category called The Business Beat And it’s a good weekend to introduce this one because the biggest advocate for local business, the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce, is behind two major events happening this weekend to support the Barrington business community.

The Business Beat - 60010

(Just in case it’s worth noting here, I’m in the middle of my third year serving on the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors – so I’m a big fan of the work they do for our community.)

The first Chamber of Commerce event is the annual Barrington Community Expo happening tomorrow, March 9th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Barrington Park District’s Langendorf Park Fitness and Recreation Center. (235 Lions Drive in Barrington)

It’s an opportunity for people who live in and around zip code 60010 to connect with many of the great businesses based or operating right here in Barrington.

There will be exhibitors at the Expo showcasing their products and services in a range of categories which include retail, food and dining, home improvement, health and wellness, financial services, automotive services and more.

The day’s activities also include fun family events like children’s face painting, performances by Bataille Academie dancers and a visit from Elmo. Food will also be available from Francesca’s. And the Chamber has even arranged for Vintage Tech Recyclers to be there to pick up any recyclable home & office electronics that you’d like to dispose of.

There will also be door prizes and raffle giveaways throughout the day including a drawing for a $500 shopping spree at businesses throughout the Barrington region!

For more information about the event and participating businesses, visit the Chamber’s website at BarringtonChamber.com.

Another event sponsored by the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce this weekend is Grace Meets Glamor, a Boutique Bridal Show happening at Biltmore Country Club (160 Biltmore Drive in North Barrington) from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 10th.

Christina Currie Events has teamed up with the non-profit, Wish Upon a Wedding, to host the event showcasing some of the leading companies in the local wedding industry.  That includes photographers, stationers, musicians, bridal salons, artists and florists.  There will also be an opportunity to sample fancy food, champagne and wedding cakes as you mingle and connect with the best bridal businesses in the Barrington area.

Christina is asking the brides who attend the event to donate $5 to Wish Upon a Wedding, an organization that helps provide dream weddings to couples facing terminal illness or other serious life-altering circumstances.  Christina Currie is a founding member and it’s a cause she’s particularly passionate about.  “Last year I met a couple and the groom had just returned from serving in Iraq, where he was injured.  Through Wish Upon a Wedding, we were were able to grant them their dream wedding last October.”

Sunday’s Grace Meets Glamor event will be a rare and elegant opportunity for a limited number of brides to interact intimately with vendors in the area.

Registration is required.  To register,  CLICK HERE or call Christina Currie at 224-558-1764.  To learn more about Christina’s business, visit ChristinaCurrieEvents.com.  And to learn more about other events and news impacting businesses in Barrington, you can always follow the Chamber of Commerce by visiting their Facebook page or their website at BarringtonAreaChamber.com.
