With the help of the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce, we’ve come up with a new way to shine a spotlight on the many businesses that help give Barrington it’s unique, colorful and ever changing character. It’s called the The Barrington Business Beat and it’s a new and regular series of stories we’ll be publishing here at 365Barrington.com.
In this series, you can expect to read regular updates from the Chamber, including interviews with local business owners, upcoming event information and the latest news impacting businesses in our community. For our first Business Beat feature, we’re focusing on on some exciting news from Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.
Good Shepherd has just been recognized by the American College of Cardiology with an award for high quality heart attack care.
Heart Attack Care Award
Our Barrington hospital is one of only 197 hospitals nationwide to receive this ACC’s “Platinum Performance Achievement Award”, which recognizes Good Shepherd Hospital’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients.
The Chief of Cardiology at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Sunil Kadakia, MD, says this award is quite an honor.
“The number of acute myocardial infarction [heart attack] patients eligible for treatment is expected to grow over the next decade due to increasing incidence of heart disease and a large aging population so this recognition shows our dedication to continually improving patient care.”
Also making headlines recently is the news that the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board unanimously approved the Certificate of Need application for Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital’s $247 million campus expansion and modernization project, giving the hospital the green light to break ground this fall.
Our Chamber of Commerce communications liaison, Juli Shatz, has more in her first report for The Barrington Business Beat.
Modernization Moves Forward
by Juli Shatz, Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce Communications
Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital has embarked on a Campus Modernization Project, with expected completion in 2017, that will greatly enhance the patient care experience by providing greater privacy, promoting innovation, and increasing efficiency.
The modernization project plans include:
Enhanced Patient-Centered Care
State-of-the-art private rooms for all patients-providing a quiet, calmer healing environment to help patients return home as quickly as possible and have the best experience possible.
New operating rooms equipped with imaging equipment that enables surgeons to get almost-instant access to MRIs, CT scans and digital-X-rays during procedures.
Green roofs will provide energy-conserving insulation and absorb rainwater.
Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital President, Karen Lambert, says getting the state board’s approval for this project is a big win for Barrington.
“This is an exciting time for our community as we prepare Good Shepherd Hospital for a new generation of innovation in health care.”
“There are so many benefits that will emerge from this project.
First, we believe that a quiet and calm environment contributes significantly to patients’ healing, so we are incorporating state-of-the-art private rooms for all patients.
And, most diagnostic services will be located in one area for easier access, allowing us to streamline their coordination and put less stress on the patient.”
In addition, Karen says smart room technology in patient rooms will allow patients, physicians and nurses easier access to integrated information about patients.
Taking such technology even further, integrated video in the operating room will enable surgeons instant access to MRIs, CT scans and digital X-rays during surgery.
The green features incorporated into the project include green roofs that provide natural insulation and absorb rainwater and other energy-efficient features that will help the hospital operate even more efficiently.
“Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital has proudly served the community for more than 30 years.” Karen Lambert says the modernization will give Barrington’s hospital an advantage in meeting patient needs now and into the future.
“This campus modernization project will ensure that Advocate’s care delivery remains outstanding and attuned to the evolving needs of the people of the Barrington-area community.”
