Our Barrington hospital is one of only 197 hospitals nationwide to receive this ACC’s “Platinum Performance Achievement Award”, which recognizes Good Shepherd Hospital’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients.

The Chief of Cardiology at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Sunil Kadakia, MD, says this award is quite an honor.

“The number of acute myocardial infarction [heart attack] patients eligible for treatment is expected to grow over the next decade due to increasing incidence of heart disease and a large aging population so this recognition shows our dedication to continually improving patient care.”

Also making headlines recently is the news that the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board unanimously approved the Certificate of Need application for Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital’s $247 million campus expansion and modernization project, giving the hospital the green light to break ground this fall.

Our Chamber of Commerce communications liaison, Juli Shatz, has more in her first report for The Barrington Business Beat.

“This is an exciting time for our community as we prepare Good Shepherd Hospital for a new generation of innovation in health care.”

“There are so many benefits that will emerge from this project.

First, we believe that a quiet and calm environment contributes significantly to patients’ healing, so we are incorporating state-of-the-art private rooms for all patients.

And, most diagnostic services will be located in one area for easier access, allowing us to streamline their coordination and put less stress on the patient.”

In addition, Karen says smart room technology in patient rooms will allow patients, physicians and nurses easier access to integrated information about patients.

Taking such technology even further, integrated video in the operating room will enable surgeons instant access to MRIs, CT scans and digital X-rays during surgery.

The green features incorporated into the project include green roofs that provide natural insulation and absorb rainwater and other energy-efficient features that will help the hospital operate even more efficiently.
