About 15 dogs rescued from high-kill shelters and looking for their forever homes will be available for adoption at a special event in the parking lot outside Heinen’s Fine Foods this weekend. The Barrington-based Dogs Deserve Life pet rescue is hosting the event with Heinen’s from 12 to 3 p.m. Saturday, August 10th. Heinen’s will be serving hot dogs and snacks while you visit with the dogs including these sweet faces longing for a new place to call home.
Susan Esdale runs Dogs Deserve Life Rescue with her husband out of their seven acre property in Barrington. Over the past seven years, they have rescued 1,500 dogs from high-kill shelters in the Midwest. “We take them off the euthanasia list. Every single dog we have is alive because we’ve rescued them.”
They primarily rescue sporting dogs like hounds, labs and pointers. They’ll also have a few beagles and smaller dogs at Saturday’s adoption event.
“The breeds that we rescue are really great with kids and other dogs. They don’t have any aggression issues, they all hang out together, they play all day, they love each other they’re great family dogs.”
All available dogs have been spayed/neutered, heartworm-tested and fully vaccinated and the adoption fee is $300.
They’re also looking for volunteers to help with handling the dogs during this weekend’s event. If you’re available to help out, please call Susan at 847-842-9300 or send her an email at dogsdeservelife@sbcglobal.net.
Susan says they could really use donations of linens for their rescue dogs. They ask that you search your linen closets for any comforters, blankets, towels or sheets that you’re willing to part with and bring to the event as a donation Saturday.
You’ll find Heinen’s Fine Foods at 500 N. Hough Street in the Shops at Flint Creek in Barrington. You can CLICK HERE to find them on Facebook or visit their website at Heinens.com.
If you can’t make Saturday’s event, there’s another one scheduled from 12 to 3 p.m. the following Saturday, August 17th, at Pet Supplies Plus, 7204 Dempster Street in Morton Grove. To learn more about Dogs Deserve Life Rescue, go to adoptapet.com or petfinder.com. They’ll come up in a search for zip code 60010.
