With the National Weather Service reporting that temperatures in our area could reach a high near 104 degrees today, we’re on target to possibly surpass the the highest temperature ever recorded in Chicago — 105 degrees, set on July 24, 1934. So medical experts are urging caution in this extreme heat and veterinarians say that goes for our pets, too.

167. 2nd Annual Dash for the Dogs at Citizens Park
It’s the social event of the season – FOR DOGS – and it’s happening tomorrow, Saturday June 9th, at Citizens Park in Barrington. Animal House Shelter is hosting their second annual Dash for the Dogs 5K and 1 mile fun run for families, dogs and kids and the forecast looks terr-ruff-ic!
Dash for the Dogs is an annual fundraiser that is held to raise much needed funds for the medical bills of special needs animals at Animal House Shelter, one of the closest shelters to Barrington in Huntley, Illinois. Animal House believes every animal deserves a chance and due to that they take on many animals with injuries and medical conditions which require extensive and expensive medical treatment.
Pooches of all ages and breeds are invited to take part and organizers hope to have a great showing of four-legged-friends (and their humans) to raise awareness and help the cause by “giving every animal a shot!”……

137. Meet Dude the Hunter & Author/Illustrator, Sue Daly
Have you heard? Dude, the real-life beagle from the brand new children’s book, Dude the Hunter, will be at Norton’s U.S.A. on Lageschulte Street in Barrington this Saturday with local author and illustrator Sue Daly! Sue will be signing copies of her new book, with the little star by her side. The event lasts from 2 to 4 p.m., so be sure to come by and get your copy signed—and possibly licked by Dude— tomorrow.
Sue is a Barrington resident, children’s book author and an accomplished illustrator known for her works drawn with pen-ink. In fact, you might already be familiar with Sue’s art……
