The sky is bright blue, the air is crisp and the weather gorgeous for the 9th annual LeCompte/Kalaway Landowners Cup Polo Tournament that starts at noon TODAY in Barrington Hills! It’s Chicagoland’s biggest polo event of the year and thousands of people are expected to make the trip out to Oakwood Farm for the tournament this afternoon.

The polo event is open to the public, gates open at 11, the cost of admission is $15 and kids ages 12 and under (and parking) are free.

In addition to the polo being played on the field, every year the tournament opens with the Parade of Hounds by the Fox River Valley Hunt Club/Concord Hounds and also features a Battle of the Sexes Polo Match, Stomping of the Divots, prizes for “Best Tailgate” and “Best Ladies Hats” plus rides with the Lake Run Clydesdales in a bright red “beer wagon”.

There’s also brand new highlight planned for this year’s tournament! For the first time ever, Medieval Times dinner-and-jousting restaurant in Schaumburg is sending a team to compete and stage a jousting demonstration as part of today’s event.

The Riding Club of Barrington Hills and the Barrington Hills Polo Club host the LeCompte/Kalaway Landowners Cup every year, offering us the opportunity “to return to the way the game of polo is meant to be enjoyed, where polo players and fans of all ages can gather in a world-class venue for the sport and the lifestyle.”

Situated on an exclusive private estate in Barrington Hills, the Polo Club’s lush green playing field is a spectacular tree-lined setting for entertaining customers, clients, family and friends with a full day of exciting polo and the most anticipated social event on the Barrington Hills calendar.

The purpose of this annual tournament is to celebrate and thank the landowners in Barrington Hills who allow the community’s riding trails to cross portions of their private properties.
The President of the Barrington Hills Polo Club, John Rosene, says, “Thanks to the landowners, if you live anywhere in Barrington Hills, you can climb on a horse at your house and visit anyone in the community on horseback. That is one of the core components of what makes Barrington Hills a unique equestrian community.”

The tournament is also named after the LeCompte family, the owners of Oakwood Farms, where the tournament takes place at the Barrington Hills Polo Club fields.
You’ll find Oakwood Farm on Deepwood road in Barrington Hills, just west of Bateman Road between Lake Cook and Route 62 and you can see it on the map by clicking HERE. The gates open at 11 am, but the action will be happening all day long. For more information, visit BarringtonHillsPolo.com.
