365Barrington Debuts "Something New at Noon Daily"

There are two things you might not know about me.  1.)  For quite some time I’ve been cooking up a concept which will allow us to expand our approach to community coverage beyond Barrington and 2.)  I type like lightening when I have an approaching deadline.  Both of those truths are coming into play today as I write this post, 15 minutes before debuting a new brand of community coverage and a precursor to a website we are developing as a companion to 365Barrington.com.  Here’s the idea in a nutshell:  Want to learn more about the community where you live?  We’ll share updates with something new at Noon Daily!

Check back for our latest post, tomorrow at noon!

The daily posts will be little snippets of life here in Barrington shared by a team of local observers.  They will include snapshots of people at work, at play or simply living life in our home town plus everyday photographs of things we encounter and places we love in our community. Our team of local “observers” will include photographers, writers and anyone who has an interest in contributing to our project.

But I’m kicking things off myself today with the story of three ladies I found tending to the garden right by the Veterans Memorial in the heart of downtown Barrington.

I was driving down Main Street and pulled over just west of Cook yesterday when I saw them planting mums and positioning pumpkins on that little plot of land.  It turns out they’re with the Country Home and Garden Club of Barrington.  Member Jean Doyle who lives in Biltmore says ladies from the group have been tending this little downtown Barrington garden weekly to honor our veterans for many years.

“We’re just kind of cutting things back and putting mums and pumpkins in place and just getting the garden ready for the fall as an ongoing tribute to the vets.  A lot of us have had relatives that have served our country.  We plant seasonal flowers throughout the spring and summer and it’s kind of neat to come out here on the Fourth of July and see all the red white and blue and the people around the garden.  It’s been a project of ours for probably the past 10 to 15 years.”

Current Country Home and Garden Club of Barrington President, Carolyn Minehart, says they’re happy to be in charge of this particular community garden.  “It gets seen and it helps our vets and we’re very loyal to them and this is a good project for us.”

The Country Home and Garden Club of Barrington is a group of about 30 ladies who love gardening.  They get together to share gardening tips, tricks and ideas with each other and they’re always looking for new members.  If you’d like more information, you can call Jean Doyle at 847-381-3013 or send her an email at j.doyle212@comcast.net.

They don’t have a website but you can CLICK HERE to find past photos of the Country Home and Garden Club of Barrington archived by the Barrington Area Library.

As for our new series, visit 365Barrington.com again tomorrow for our next Noon Daily post.   I missed the deadline on this first one by about 15 minutes, by the way, because it’s now 12:15.  Our intentions may be good, but I never said we were perfect ;).

Thank you, ladies, for tending Barrington’s Veterans memorial garden downtown.  I’m happy to now know it’s you that keeps this little piece of land looking so beautiful.
