She may be a New York Times best-selling author today, but 25-year-old Veronica Roth who wrote the futuristic action-adventure trilogy including books DIVERGENT, INSURGENT and ALLEGIANT got her start as a young student who loved to read, write and “play pretend” right here in Barrington.
Summit Entertainment is currently producing a major motion picture starring Academy Award Winner Kate Winslet based on Veronica’s trilogy which is set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. When we were preparing for Veronica’s return for a series of events to support the Barrington 220 Educational Foundation last week, we wanted to get to know a little more about her experience growing up here in our community.
We set out to find a few of the people who influenced Veronica most, which led us straight to her mother, Barbara Ross, who is an artist here in Barrington.
During Veronica’s visit to Barrington High School on Thursday, 365BarringtonTV reporter Catherine Goetze was able to ask her a few questions on camera and made a point of catching up with her mom Barbara Ross at home for a closer look at the early days of Veronica Roth’s writing career.
The third book in Veronica’s trilogy, ALLEGIANT, will be released on October 22nd and the movie based on her book DIVERGENT “…will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX® format and released in IMAX® theatres worldwide beginning March 21, 2014″ according to a press release from PR Newswire. Now that’s impressive! So pick up your copies of Veronica’s books today and get ready to support one of our community’s own with this preview of the upcoming movie with roots right here in Barrington.
