Barrington village plan and architectural review commissioners have approved a one-story amendment to the two-story development project proposed to be the “Village Center” at Hough and Main Streets. Barrington High School senior Carter Bailey was diagnosed with leukemia just after Easter. CrossFit Barrington members have now launched a fundraising campaign to help the Bailey family through Carter’s treatment. Read more about the 18-year-old athlete in this week’s edition.

High tea helps the homeless
The Barrington-based Michael Joseph Foundation recently hosted a tea, luncheon and fashion show at the Sanfilippo Estate of Barrington. A full Barrington Suburban Life photo page highlights a feel-good afternoon of raising money to help area families in crisis.

At last, a fire agreement
Barrington area fire chiefs – Jeff Swanson, of the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District, and James Arie, of the Barrington Fire Department – have made progress toward reaching an automatic-aid agreement. Effective immediately, both departments have agreed to provide assistance for all structure fires that occur in the district and the village of Barrington. Discussions on EMS and water-rescue assistance will continue…

Countryside 5k for GiGi’s Playhouse
Did you or your student hit the ground running at the annual Countryside Cares event? Check out this week’s recap and photos. More than $3,000 was raised for GiGi’s Playhouse which offers free support to children and adults with Down syndrome. Student and adult runners received awards.

Barrington resident to set world record
Julie Perry, Fox Valley U.S. Power Squadrons commander, shares her goal to break last year’s world record of 5,774 participants taking part in the Ready, Set, Wear It: Life Jacket World Record Day campaign. This year’s event is May 17 at Cabella’s in Hoffman Estates.
