227. Fred Fest to Feature 5 Bands & Family Fun at Fox River Preserve and Marina

The third-annual Fred Fest returns to the beautiful Fox River Preserve and Marina in Port Barrington (28500 W. Roberts Road) on Saturday, August 15, 2015 from 1:00 to 8:00 pm. This year’s event will feature five local bands and a day of family-friendly activities in a beautiful outdoor setting.

Individual tickets cost $10 and you can purchase a family pass for $25.  Here’s a look at the exciting lineup of popular bands and family activities planned for Fred Fest, 2015…

The Music

  • 1:00 – 1:45: Sons of Bildor
  • 2:00 – 2:45: Pat McKillen
  • 3:00 – 4:30: Camille & Tangled Heart
  • 5:00 – 6:15: Hudson-McCoy
  • 6:45 – 8:00: Rod Tuffcurls & the Benchpress

Family Activities

  • Build bird houses with the Home Depot
  • Learn about mammals with Barrington’s own Citizens for Conservation
  • Join educators from the Lake County Forest Preserves for insect collecting and to learn about the early Native Americans of Lake County
  • Enjoy yoga demonstrations, participate in a fitness class, or enjoy easy fitness tasks courtesy of Tensile Strength Studio.
  • Visit the L.L. Bean booth to learn about their Outdoor Discovery School and what’s happening at their local store.

The Venue

  • Nestled along a tranquil section of the Fox River, this preserve features trails, picnic shelters, open space for outdoor recreation activities, drinking fountains, and a marina with a public boat launch.
  • Please come prepared for the weather, Fred Fest is a rain or shine event. Fox River Preserve and Marina is an outdoor space with a large shelter and lawn available. Limited, first come, first serve seating will be available under the shelter. Picnic tables are scattered throughout the main event space for your use and enjoyment.
  • Whether you are staying for one act, or the entire day, Fred Fest organizers encourage you to bring chairs, blankets and your own food and beverages. Limited food and beverage will also be available for purchase from Grassroots Barrington and Kookers!

For the enjoyment of all of guests, please follow these guidelines:

  • Leave nature as you find it for others to enjoy.
  • Alcoholic beverages are permitted; must be 21 years or older. No alcohol consumption within 100 feet of parking lots.
  • Park only in lots. Loitering in lots is prohibited. Vehicles left after closing will be towed at owner’s expense.
  • All preserves are in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Picnic tables are 6 feet by 3 feet and seat six adults.
  • Wheelchair accessible picnic tables are 8 feet by 3 feet with a 6-foot bench.

All proceeds from Fred Fest support the Preservation Foundation of the Lake County Forest Preserves and will help pay for future buildings on Lake County’s 100 acre Hurd property overlooking the Fox River. The land is off Kelsey Road on a hill overlooking Cary and the project will ultimately connect the trails at Grassy Lake south of Kelsey Road with the Hurd property north of Kelsey.
