Now that September is in full swing, it’s officially Back-to-School season! At Language Stars, we’re kicking off the school year with new additions to our curriculum and a special 15% discount exclusively for 365Barrington readers. (To receive the discount, enroll using promo code 365BPARTNER.) We’re also hosting our first Around the World Photo Contest to highlight some of your favorite cultural connections while shining a spotlight on Language Stars’ team of native speaking teachers from over twenty countries.
For those of you not familiar with Language Stars, we offer a variety of foreign language programs for kids from 12 months to 10 years of age in Spanish, French, Italian, German, and Mandarin Chinese. We offer group classes of 4-10 students that meet once a week, and new this Academic Year we also offer private lessons!
Learning a language at a young age is optimal as children are able to easily absorb a second language in the same way they are absorbing English. But there are many other benefits that go along with a full-immersion, play-based program such as ours! One of the things we’re most proud of is our team of native speaking teachers from around the world.
Having your child in a classroom setting with a passionate, dynamic teacher from another country is an amazing opportunity. Our teachers help your child imitate a true native accent when speaking the new language, and open their eyes to the world around them. They will develop cultural sensitivity, interest in new customs and practices, and learn about new cities and monuments they may have never heard of before!
One of our twelve Chicagoland locations is located right here at 117 E. Northwest Highway in Barrington. At this location alone, we have a team of 11 teachers from Spain, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Germany, France, Morocco, and China. Over the next few weeks, we will be featuring some of these teachers by sharing a little about them, their photo, and their favorite things about their native culture.
But now it’s your turn:
To enter our Around the World Photo Contest, share a photo from Barrington or around the globe depicting your favorite culture using the form below. Whether your family loves international travel, you have family members from another country or speak another language at home, let us know what you love most about that culture. Is there a local business you frequent with a cultural connection? Share a photo and the reasons why and, at the end of the month, we will award these three prizes…
First Prize
A Language Stars play date for your child and 9 of his/her friends! Play dates are a peek into the world of Language Stars. Available in the language of your choice, kids will get a one-hour mini class with games, songs, and art.
Second Prize
Foreign Language Movie Night for your child and 9 of his/her friends (a.k.a. “Parents’ Night Out”)! One of our native speaking teachers will lead fun games and art before the group views a movie of your choice in another language at Language Stars in Barrington. Pizza, popcorn and juice are included.
Third Prize
A 3-pack of DVDs from Little Pim, the number one foreign language series for young kids!
We’ll be accepting entries through Friday, September 25th and we’ll host a vote the last week of the month to let 365Barrington readers select the three winners, which we’ll announce at the end of the month. And that’s all there is to it! So, without further delay, here’s the contest entry form. We’re so excited to see what you share!

About the Author
Brittany Gignac is the Director of Language Stars in Barrington and says her love of the French language led her to the celebrated children’s foreign language school.
“I’m very passionate about languages myself. I love kids and I love languages so put the two together and this is the place for me to be.” Brittany majored in French at Chicago’s DePaul University and lived in Paris before coming to work for Language Stars. “When I came in for an interview, I sat in a Mandarin Chinese class for four-year-olds. When they started speaking in full sentences, it was like a magic show. And I knew this was a company I wanted to work for.”
