This weekend Union and Confederate armies will be converging at Citizens Park in Barrington in an event that might not happen for another 150 years! So you don’t want to miss the the battles and presentations that will be part of Barrington’s Sesquicentennial Civil War reenactment on Saturday and Sunday, September 19th and 20th.

The Village of Barrington is welcoming all to join them on the battlefield and be part of a series of FREE sesquicentennial events scheduled for this week:

On Saturday, September 19th, the entire camp will come to life and open for the public at 10:00 a.m. at Citizens Park.

The event will feature an Abe Lincoln impersonator, medical demonstrations, a fashion show presided over by Mrs. Lincoln and a battle with commentary. Food will be available for purchase by Kooker’s from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The schedule for the day is:

  • 10:00 a.m. Camps Open to the Public
  • 10:30 a.m. General Sherman Addresses Spectators at the Pavilion
  • 11:00 a.m. Artillery Practice Drills at Battlefield
  • 12:00 Noon Fashion Show with Mrs. Lincoln at Amphitheater
  • 12:30 p.m. Medical Demonstration at the 17th Corps Hospital Tent
  • 1:00 p.m. Presentation called “Divided Families” by Mrs. Lincoln at Amphitheater
  • 2:00 p.m. Battle Reenactment with Commentary at Battlefield
  • 2:30 p.m. Post-Battle Medical Surgery Demonstration at the 17th Corps Hospital Tent
  • 3:00 p.m. Presentation of Colors – Camp Closes to the Public

On Sunday, September 20th, the camp will open for the public again at 10:00 a.m. The schedule for the Sunday is:

  • 10:00 a.m. Camps Open to the Public
  • 11:00 a.m. Artillery Practice Drills at Battlefield
  • 12:00 p.m. Medical Demonstration at the 17th Corps Hospital Tent
  • 1:00 p.m. Battle Reenactment with Commentary at Battlefield
  • 1:30 p.m. Post-Battle Medical Surgery Demonstration at the 17th Corps Hospital Tent
  • 2:00 p.m. Presentation of Colors – Camp Closes to the Public

Tuesday, September 15th – 7:00 p.m.

Barrington Hills resident Bill Hannay will bring Civil War history to life with his portrayal of soldier Norris Hamilton

Saturday, September 19th – 10:30 a.m.

Guy C. Fraker, author of Lincoln’s Ladder to the Presidency: The Eighth Judicial Circuit, speaks about Lincoln’s career in Illinois.

Sunday, September 20th a- 2 p.m.
Barrington Area Library
Barrington native and BHS graduate Ron Cogswell, former COO of the Civil War Trust in Washington D.C., gives a presentation on preserving Civil War battlefields.
