Experience the Christmas story through the creations of twelve artists on display in twelve stores during these last twelve days leading up to the holiday. The 2015 Christmas Art Walk, A Gift to Remember, is now underway at participating locations throughout the Village of Barrington. The event opened on Saturday, December 12th with events at Barrington’s White House and a live nativity play and petting zoo outside Egg Harbor Cafe and M.J. Miller Jeweler.

Organized by the Jonahre Foundation, the walk’s artists have all been commissioned to create works that depict the actions of characters in the Christmas story. Six of the twelve artists featured in this year’s walk are international, hailing from as far as Iran and South Africa.  All works of art will remain on display for the twelve day period and docent-led tours leave from the Barrington Flower Shop each day at noon (except Sunday). Each work of art interprets one of twelve Biblical events from the story of the first Christmas, from Gabriel’s announcement to Mary through the Wise Men’s presentation of gold, frankincense and myrrh. In many cases, the store setting complements the featured artwork, as with a stunning Ardmore Ceramic piece showing the Wise Men’s gift of gold displayed at M.J. Miller jewelers. Families are invited to EXPLORE, DISCOVER and WALK through 12 stores following a map through the Village of Barrington between December 12th through 24th, 2015.

The Christmas Art Walk was conceived in 2013, when Jonahre’s founder, Christine Gunn-Danforth, PhD., was asked to recreate the Passion Art Walk experience she designed to celebrate Easter — this time, telling the story of Christmas. “We want to bring light and connection to the community, and a reminder of the true gift of Christmas,” Christine said. “Jesus was born into a humble village so far away, yet we can use our own Village to bring him into our hearts.”
