Welcome to This Day in Barrington History
Good morning and welcome to February 3rd and Day 34 of 365 in Barrington, Illinois! You’ll find our stories of the day – past, present & future (events) – right here on today’s DailyPage.
Because every day has its own rhythm, we’re sharing a song of the day here at 365Barrington.com.
On this day in 1947, English singer, songwriter and guitarist Dave Davies, with The Kinks was born. Ranked 91st in Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”, Davies was the lead guitarist and backing singer (occasionally singing lead) for English rock band, the Kinks, which also featured his older brother, Sir Ray Davies.
The Kinks scored the 1964 UK No.1 & US No.7 ‘You Really Got Me’, written by Ray Davies and released on August 4th, 1964 as the group’s third single. Davies said that he had been inspired to write the song one night during his college days playing with the Dave Hunt Band, when he saw an attractive girl on the dance floor. He said, “When we finished, I went off to find her, but she was gone and never returned to the club. She really got me going.” Built around a blues guitar riff played by Dave Davies, the song’s lyrics were described by Dave as “a love song for street kids.”
Stay tuned for our daily songs this month. We’ll be choosing some of our favorite LOVE SONGS leading up to Valentine’s Day.
