Foodies, wine lovers, culinary craftsmen, lend me your ears! And mark your calendars for a delicious event coming up on Friday, April 27. An impressive selection of fine wines will be available for you to sip as you watch local chefs prepare top menu items for you to sample while you shop. The popular culinary event is called Taste Takes Flight and it’s hosted by WINGS, an organization that helps women and children who are homeless or the victims of domestic abuse.

WINGS stands for Women in Need Going Stronger and the second annual Taste Takes Flight event will help raise funds to support their programs. It’s taking place at the Meadows Club in Rolling Meadows from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. next Friday, April 27th, so it’s a great excuse to start the weekend early and on a fun and festive note.

The International House of Wine and Cheese from Richmond, IL will be offering nearly 30 wines for tasting and ordering as you sample fine foods from 15 of the area’s finest restaurants and caterers. Plus, you’ll have the opportunity to interact one-on-one with top local chefs as they prepare their dishes while you watch.

Restaurants and caterers to be featured at this year’s event include:

  • Barrington Country Bistro (Barrington)
  • Chessie’s/111 Grill (Barrington)
  • Francesca’s Famiglia (Barrington)
  • McGonigal’s Pub (Barrington)
  • The Meadows Club; NEAR (Barrington)

On top of the food, wine and shopping, The Mom 100 Cookbook author, Katie Workman, will also be there to sign books and discuss ways to make food fun and easy for the whole family. Plus, you’ll be able to shop for merchandise provided by about 20 area boutiques offering an assortment of culinary and kitchen products, gourmet foods, home décor, jewelry and accessories.

Tickets to Taste Takes Flight are $50 in advance or $60 at the door. You also can purchase advance $100 VIP tickets for special access to presentations at the event about pairing premium wines with cheese and chocolate. All money raised will benefit WINGS’ Safe House, which provides counseling and transitional shelter to women and children who are victims of domestic violence. In 2011 alone, WINGS provided 36,000 nights of shelter and services for 306 women and children, primarily from Chicago’s northern suburbs.
