Home Newsroom 264. 10 on Tuesday: Great Gatsby Glam, Beer School & Halloween Fun

The new Great Gatsby movie coming out next year featuring Leo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey McGuire is the inspiration behind this year’s Barrington Junior Women’s Club fall fashion show.  The event is called Great Gatsby Glam and I’m told people will be dressing for the theme this year, from the runway models to your hosts to some of the guests with plans to break out their art deco baubles and feather boas for the party.

Warner Brothers

Event co-chair, Keisha Fulton St. John says we can expect to see a lot of feathers, flappers and guys in tuxedos adding a major glam factor to the popular annual event.  “When you’re walking in, you’re going to feel like you’re entering the Academy Awards because we’re doing a red carpet with velvet ropes and a backdrop with photo-snapping paparazzi.  Inside, the whole space is going to feel like you’ve stepped back into the Waldorf Astoria in the 1920’s.”

About 40 participating boutiques will be offering on-site shopping prior to the fashion show and luncheon at Stonegate Conference Center in Hoffman Estates, starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 10th.  But this event is just one of many upcoming things to do that made this week’s “10 on Tuesday” list of upcoming events in the Barrington area…

Salutations! Today we don't just have /one/ Word of the Day... no no no. Today, I'd like to introduce you to the days of the week! 😁

First things first, though! We had an --amazing-- club meeting last week. Pretty chill, pretty conversational -- and I got my butt kicked at both Kahoot and Gimkit. 😂

Onto the Words! So, there're a lot of ways to say the days of the week in Chinese. You can start 'em off with 星期 (xīng qī),周 (zhōu),or even sometimes 礼拜(lǐ bài). For today, we'll look at the way I first learned that sequence: 星期 (xīng qī)

So, if you know numbers, this might make a lot of sense. Essentially, the days of the week are numbered (Monday = 星期一, with 一 yī meaning "one"). The only exception is Sunday, which can be called 星期日 xīng qī rì , with 日 meaning "sun," or 星期天 xīng qī tiān, with 天 meaning "sky" or "heaven."

Okay, okay. Enough dallying. Here's the quick list:
星期一 xīng qī yī Monday
星期二 xīng qī èr Tuesday
星期三 xīng qī sān Wednesday
星期四 xīng qī sì Thursday
星期五 xīng qī wǔ Friday
星期六 xīng qī liù Saturday
星期天 xīng qī tiān Sunday

Thanks guys! I hope that made sense 🙃
