Over a dozen chefs are preparing an impressive menu for the April 18th culinary and wine extravaganza, Taste Takes Flight, a rare opportunity to sip, savor and sample a variety of dishes from area restaurants.  It’s the third annual tasting event benefiting WINGS (Women in Need Growing Stronger), an organization that works to end domestic violence and homelessness in Chicago’s suburbs.  For the first time, the event is being held in the evening instead of the afternoon, so more spouses can attend this year.  And this impressive group represents the faces behind the fine foods to be featured alongside an exciting list of wines.

The chefs will provide their signature cuisines for sampling, International House of Wine and Cheese will provide wine for sipping and Anderson’s Candy Shop of Barrington will provide homemade chocolates for savoring.

Amelia Levin, author of Chicago Chef’s Table, will be on hand to autograph her book and discuss the great cuisines available throughout the Chicago area.  And Jaime Laurita, celebrity chef to the stars, will also headline this culinary charity event.  Mr. Laurita recently launched a line of food and wine products now available at Heinen’s Fine Foods in Barrington.

Restaurants or caterers scheduled include: Butera’s Market; Carnivlae; Chessie’s; Francesca’s Familiglia; the new Fresco 21; L’Eiffel Bistrot & Creperie; Mago Grill & Cantina; Makray Memorial Golf Club; Chicago Marriott Northwest; McGonigal’s Pub; NEAR (rated 2 stars by Chicago Tribune food critic Phil Vettel); The Annex; The Baking Institute; The Rosewood Restaurant & Banquets; Wild Asparagus and Wynstone Golf Club.

Emcees for the evening are Margaret McSweeney, host of “Truffles and Tribulations” and radio (WCKG-AM) personality Geoff Pinkus.  And jazz pianist, Joe Re, will set the musical tone for the evening.

Also new this year,  WINGS has chosen a recipient for their First Annual Leadership Award.  It’s going to Lisa Stamos, editor & publisher of Quintessential Barrington Magazine, for her devotion to WINGS since 20005.

The event lasts from 6:30 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, April 18th, at the Chicago Marriott Northwest, 4800 Hoffman Boulevard in Hoffman Estates.

The cost is $75 per person for a “Sip Savor Sample” ticket, which includes delicious tastes from over 15 renowned chefs, wine tasting and sampling gourmet offerings.  The “Wine Pairings Ticket” costs $100 per person and includes Sip Savor and Sample events plus wine, cheese and chocolate pairings at your table.
