Barrington High School’s marching band has been invited to perform during the world’s largest New Year’s Day parade and festival in LONDON on Jan. 1, 2014, but they could use a little help from their friends.  (That means us :).)  And helping fund their trip is as easy as having pizza for dinner tonight!

Lou Malnati’s at the corner of Cuba and Rand Roads in Lake Zurich will be donating 20% of purchases made between 4 and 10 p.m. tonight to help pay for the BHS Marching Band’s trip to London.  So it’s a great night to give those ovens a break and help thank the band for making such great music in Barrington by ordering Lou Malnati’s for dinner.

But you do need to show them the band’s flyer so your purchase will be part of tonight’s fundraiser.  CLICK HERE to print out and show them a copy and be sure to mention the band’s London trip fundraiser when you’re placing your order.

BHS Director of Bands, Randy Karon, says the student trip will be an 8 day exploration of London and surrounding areas culminating with performances at Cadogan Hall, and in the 28th Annual London New Year’s Day Parade.

“The invitation from the Youth Music of the World is a highly coveted one.  Youth Music of the World is a highly credible organization, and several of our Chicago suburban bands have been invited in the past with great success.”

In a letter to parents, Randy also writes,

“I am very excited about the possibility for our band, and am flattered and proud to have been invited to this event in London.  This will be A LOT of work on our parts, but should be the adventure of a lifetime!”

Freshman clarinet player, Carolyn Hauk, and sophomore clarinet player, Teagan Kick say they are so excited for the opportunity and hopeful the band will be able to raise enough money to cover their expenses.

“As an incoming freshman, I felt immediately welcomed and involved in BHS as a member of the band; everyone is friendly and encourages each other to play their best.  Playing in the London New Year’s parade is an exciting opportunity to combine my love for travel and music and be part of BHS band history.  This is a fun group that is very serious about its music and we can’t wait to represent Barrington to a global audience — we’ll make you very proud!”
– Carolyn Hauk, BHS Freshman, Clarinet Player

“My favorite thing about band is being able to do what I love (play music) with my friends.  There’s a lot of camaraderie and great friendships in the band.  Marching in the London New Year’s Day Parade is an opportunity for us to share our music with the world.  The band is very excited about the trip and spending time in London.”
– Teagan Kick, BHS Sophmore, Clarinet Player

The Barrington High School band program has a long, rich tradition of excellence. The program serves approximately 200 student musicians in five curricular classes including Concert and Symphonic Bands, 2 jazz ensembles, and a jazz improvisation ensemble.

Over the past 20 years, the Marching Band has been invited to perform in California, Toronto, Ontario, Minneapolis and repeatedly in Florida, including the 2011 Walt Disney World Thanksgiving Parade of Bands in Orlando.
