It’s a bird! It’s a plane!! It’s a Cop on a Rooftop!!! Be on the lookout for police on the roof of Dunkin’ Donuts in Barrington from 5 a.m. to noon this Friday, May 17th at the intersection of Northwest Highway & Lake Cook Road. They’ll be waving from above and collecting donations down below for Special Olympics of Illinois and those who benefit locally.

2019 marks the 17th Anniversary of the Dunkin’ Cop on Rooftop event with the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois. The Torch Run is an intrastate relay run by officers carrying the “Flame of Hope” nearly 1,500 miles through thousands of Illinois communities to its final destination, the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games on June 7th in Normal.

The Cop on a Rooftop campaign has been a huge success over the years with more than $4.8 million raised statewide through this partnership. More than 310 locations across Illinois will be participating in this year’s event with the goal of surpassing last year’s total of more than $871,000 raised.

Barrington Police Detective Lori Allsteadt will be among the cops on the rooftop this Friday. She says they hope to raise $7,500 locally this year. “It’s exciting to help support an organization like Special Olympics in this way and pretty cool to see Barrington from up on the roof with people honking and waving. It’s a huge event and really helps so many Special Olympians statewide and we hope you’ll join us in supporting the cause on Friday!”
