Welcome to This Day in Barrington History
Good morning and welcome to February 13th and Day 44 of 365 in Barrington, Illinois! You’ll find our stories of the day – past, present & future (events) – right here on today’s DailyPage. Because every day has its own rhythm, we’re sharing a song of the day here at 365Barrington.com.
On this day, February 13th in 1950, Peter Gabriel was born. The English singer-songwriter and record producer with Genesis had the 1974 UK No.21 single ‘I Know What I Like In Your Wardrobe’. Gabriel left Genesis in 1975 to launch his solo career and had the 1986 US No.1 & UK No.4 single ‘Sledgehammer’ from the 1986 UK No.1 & US No.2 album So.
“In Your Eyes” was pulled as the third single from So back in September of 1986. Did you know, Gabriel’s lyrics in this song were inspired by an African tradition of ambiguity in song between romantic love and love of God? (Thanks, Wikipedia!)
Song of the Day
“In Your Eyes” reentered the US music charts, reaching #41 when it was featured in the classic 1989 teen drama/high-school film, Say Anything starring John Cusack and Ione Skye.
Who could forget iconic scene from the film when broken-hearted Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack) serenades his ex-girlfriend, Diane Court (Ione Skye), outside her bedroom window by holding a boombox up above his head and playing the song for her. Say Anything was released on April 14, 1989, just three months before I turned 16. (sigh)
