Twelve years ago today, I started 365Barrington.com on April Fools Day, 2010. I was a new mom with a one-year-old, 2-month-old and a third child still to come. It all started as a challenge to myself. Could I share one thing each day to do in Barrington, Illinois? Well, 12 years and thousands of posts later, I now know there will never be a shortage of people, places and things to see, do and celebrate right here in this town we all call home.
As a community, we supported each other through a pandemic. We celebrated a sesquicentennial. We welcomed a very tardy Rihanna to Barrington High School (remember that one from back in 2013? 😉). There have been many, many more stories about people in Barrington doing great things to help neighbors, friends, local businesses and even our beautiful natural landscape and the wildlife in our midst. It has been so much fun to start our family in this community we have in common.
What began as an experiment evolved into a business of its own. We’re approaching an audience of 30,000 followers on Facebook, 5,000 on Instagram and thousands more who subscribe to receive our regular emails. Today, we’re excited to announce that we’re offering one more way to take part in our efforts to celebrate community. It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time and today, this website’s 12th birthday, feels like a good day to start!
So, without further adieu, welcome to the 365Barrington Birthday Club!!! All are welcome to join us as we celebrate birthdays in our community with daily shoutouts plus special gifts from local businesses during the month when you were born. From flowers to pastries to ice cream and more, we’ve been lining up partner businesses and we’re kicking this off TODAY!
This month’s birthday celebrators will receive a gift from our family, The Luby Group. We’re a team of local Realtors with the @properties office here in town. It’s a family affair and we’re planning a gift pick-up date for Saturday, April 30th, at our office (508 S. Northwest Highway) in Barrington. It’s the first month of many to come so – we promise – it’ll be special!
