I’ve been spending a lot of time with my baby girl lately. She’s the sweetest thing, but she loves to make messes. Even after herculean efforts to keep things clean, I find new cookie crumbs around every corner. She spills milk because it’s fun. She removes her diaper at the most inopportune times. And she loves to dump small toys and puzzle pieces in a big pile whenever she sees that they’ve just been put away. This little girl really knows how to push my buttons and she’s not even two years old.

I knew there was a big heap of laundry waiting when I got home from work yesterday. I dropped my bag and had started cleaning when I discovered this colorful new mess. I swear I heard cackles of laughter echoing through my washing machine. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve put that little plastic horse back in the barn.

I’m starting to learn that, though there are many things I can control, these little messes just aren’t one of them. But, at the end of the day, when my daughter whispers, “Iluffyou”, her little voice fills my mind leaving no room for complaints.
