Babies Born at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, Illinois

You may have noticed that I’ve been a little absent over the past week or so here at 365Barrington.com and it’s because of some big news.  My husband and I welcomed our third child on Monday of last week, born right here in Barrington. The baby arrived a full week before my due date and we’re happy to announce that it’s a boy!

We named him Thomas Patrick, he was born at Good Shepherd Hospital and, boy-oh-boy, do I have a story for you…

It all started during a quick trip to Target by the South Barrington Arboretum on Monday of last week, when my labor began. I drove myself to the hospital as my husband hopped a train home from work. I was settled in the hospital bed by about 6 p.m. and planned to kill some time watching the Bachelorette, which starts at 7. I thought I had a long night of labor ahead, but baby Thomas had other plans.

By the time 7:45 rolled around, the anesthesiologist was the guy I most wanted to see. You should have seen the look on my face when my doctor told me he wouldn’t make it in time. I never knew “Are you ready to have this baby now?” would be one of the hardest questions I’d ever have to answer. But I didn’t have to speak a word, because my face said it all.

The good news is that I discovered the bright side to giving birth without the help of an anesthesiologist. Instead of the 12-14 hour labors I’m used to, baby Thomas arrived quickly, at 8:43, just in time for the Bachelorette’s Final Rose Ceremony. I was wired for three days straight, but things are slowly settling into our “new normal” here at home. And that means, as I’ve been told to expect, my two other kids are indeed showing serious signs of regression. My two-year-old daughter thinks she still fits in the baby bassinet…

My one-year-old son, Billy, has found a home in our second vibrating infant seat. If you catch him while his new brother is sleeping, chances are you’ll find Billy’s eyes closed, too. The pink cowboy boots aren’t really part of the story. He has just recently discovered the joy of putting on shoes he finds around the house.

I’m feeling grateful for a third successful delivery at Good Shepherd Hospital. I’m thankful for the doctors, nurses and friends who helped us during this exciting time and the South Barrington/Hoffman Estates Target will forever hold a special place in my heart ;).

I’m also happy to report that my two older kids seem to be adjusting nicely to this newcomer, though they’ve both made it clear that they expect our full attention, all the time. It has taken some effort to get into the swing of things as a mother of three. But now that Tommy is eight-days-old, I wanted to share my latest theme song. As I get back to the business of writing about great things to do in Barrington, I think James Brown said it best. And I also think this may be where my husband Bill got his dance moves…
