Summer Volunteering Gears Up at Barrington Area Volunteer Connection

Summer brings many outdoor opportunities which allow volunteers to help nonprofits with their programs or events, but also can be a fun way to spend an afternoon or evening. The Barrington Area Volunteer Connection (BAVC) platform is the easiest way to find out what is going on around the area and how to get involved. See our links below for just a few of the outdoor volunteer opportunities:

(These are all open to high school students so will provide volunteer hours).

Golf Outing for Shelter, Inc!

Shelter, Inc’s 20th Annual Michael Portelli Memorial Golf Outing will be held at The Preserve at Oak Meadows. Volunteers needed to assist with registration, goody bags, betting holes, raffle, ball launcher, putting contest, photography, and more!

Volunteer times will be AM, PM or All Day spots between the hours of 11:00 am-6:00 pm. (Lunch will be provided for all volunteers.)

Traffic Assistant at The Arb Concert Series!

Barrington Giving Day is responsible for managing traffic for The Arboretum’s Wednesday Night Concert Series this summer and needs help from volunteers in the community. Enjoy some great music and fresh air while helping direct traffic this summer! (Volunteers must be high school age or older)

[The Arboretum will donate $350 to Barrington Giving Day for every night they can staff the event. A traffic vest and wand will be provided.]

NAMI Summer Picnic!

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness and their families. Their mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals and their families affected by mental illness through support, education, and advocacy.

Volunteers are needed to help with the NAMI Barrington Chapter summer picnic at Langandorf Park on the afternoon of Sunday, August 25th with set up, serving food, organizing games, and picnic clean up. Hours are from 12 – 4PM.
