In addition to helping provide a free platform to connection nonprofits and residents, The Barrington Area Volunteer Connection (BAVC) hosts local events throughout the year.
In honor of April’s National Volunteer Month, BAVC & the Barrington Area Library are again hosting Volunteer Connection LIVE on Saturday, April 12th from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
Open to adults and teens, the event will take place in the Barrington Area Library Meeting Room and Atrium.
“The Community Meal participated in the BAVC volunteer connection program a couple years ago because we are looking for Barrington area volunteers. One of our BEST volunteers, Leslie Parsons is now a core team member at The Community Meal. Leslie also volunteers at the Cuba Food Pantry so serving at The Community Meal was exactly what she was looking for. We look forward to talking to all the wonderful folks that attend this year’s Volunteer Connection!” — Sandy Hasse, Program Director of the Community Meal
“We would like to spread awareness of the services we offer at no charge to the community. We are all trained NAMI volunteers with a mission to improve the quality of life for individuals and their families affected by mental health concerns through a variety of support groups, education classes, and advocacy. We welcome all to come join us!” — Mary Rose Peters, President of NAMI
Volunteer Connection LIVE will offer several things to residents:
- Volunteer Fair – The Spotlight of the day! It is the perfect way for resident to learn how they can help local nonprofits. Over 20 nonprofits will be onsite and will be able to share more about their mission and volunteer needs
- Community Networking – a great space for residents to learn about the local resources offered in the Barrington Area
- Donation Day— Some of our nonprofits will be collecting items that will help their mission such as:
- Rahab’s Daughters is accepting travel size toiletries; used cell phones, tablets, and laptops for their clients.
- Walk On Farm is accepting paper towels, Simple Green cleanser
- Barrington Giving Day is accepting Prom Attire (gowns, jewelry, suits/tuxedos, ties, dress shirts, evening shoes)
