130. Reveal the Spring Break 2012 Photo Contest Winners

A record breaking number of votes came in for our Spring Break 2012 photo contest and we’re excited to announce today that we have THREE WINNERS! 51 percent of the almost 600 votes cast were for a photo called “Baby’s First Spring Break” taken by local photographer, Emily Hernandez. Emily takes the top prize in our contest, for the second year in a row! And with a wee one in the family, the Hernandez family chose to celebrate spring break right here at home.
The top prize in this year’s contest is a $50 gift card to spend at retail shops throughout Barrington that are among the 900+ members of the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce. Chamber president, Janet Meyer, says she’s thrilled to see the prize go to someone who planned a spring break staycation right here in the Barrington area. To see more of Emily’s photography, visit her website at EmilyHernandezPhotography.com.
The photo that scored second place, with 35 percent of the vote, is an image called “Close Encounters” taken by Laury Kossoff……

127. Vote for Your Favorite 2012 Spring Break Photos

I love how a little time away from the office brings out a more relaxed, appreciative and creative outlook on life. Armed with cameras and a little beautiful scenery, the photographers in this year’s Spring Break photo contest captured stunning images that let your mind drift with memories of what true relaxation feels like. The challenge in this year’s contest was simple:  In a photograph, show what spring break 2012 looked like to you. Here’s one of the photos that best answers that question for me.  No beach.  Just a boy and a moose…
We received beautiful images for our contest this year and need your help with choosing our winners. To cast your vote, just put checks in the boxes by your favorite photos below. The image that gets the most votes will win our 2012 Spring Break photo contest and we have awards for three winners….…

99. Give it Up for “Melty the Snowman”

Well it turns out our recent snowstorm didn’t produce the best kind of snow for making snowmen. They couldn’t create the fleet of Frosties I’d envisioned during St. Matthew’s Snowman Building Day last weekend. But we still managed to find a winner for our 365 Barrington Snowman Contest. I just CAN NOT allow the Sweet Spot candy prize to go uneaten! Plus, I have this little policy of finishing what I start. So I set out to find our 365 Barrington Snowman Contest winner and I didn’t have to go far.

But I did feel like a big dork when my neighbor caught me taking a picture of the week-old, half-melted snowman in their front lawn. She says he looked a lot cuter last week.  She’s the same neighbor who recently watched me back out of the driveway, crash into our babysitter’s car and then drive away to get my daughter to preschool on time. So I think this one deserves a drumroll….

And the winner of the 365 Barrington Snowman Contest is……

354. 365 Barrington SPRING BREAK Photo Contest

We’re heading into the home stretch here at 365Barrington.com! I just reminded my husband that, after next Sunday, we’ll only be FOUR DAYS AWAY from day 365. Because our site sees so much traffic on weeks when we host community photo contests and because today is the FIRST DAY OF SPRING, I decided now would be a good time to host one more contest before the year is complete. It’s our first ever “Spring Break Photo Contest” and the grand prize will be a great way for our winner to relax and have fun when the vacation is over.

The rules are easy. I just made them up. Anyone is eligible to enter this contest, whether you’ve jetted off to sea or ski or are having a “Staycation” like we are right here at home. If you participated in one of our past photo contests, that’s great! We’d love to see more of your photos this time. All you have to do is submit your favorite photo or photos which answer this question:…

329. “Guess Where Wednesday” & Last Week’s Winner

With last week’s mystery photo we challenged you to identify the buildings and streets shown in a “Birdseye View of Historic Barrington” and we consulted with a local history expert who chose our winner.  We’ll announce the winner in just a minute, but first, here’s a look at our brand new mystery photo of the week taken by Barrington photographer, Anthony Tortoriello.  Can you guess where in Barrington Anthony was standing when he took this picture?
We have a great new prize for the winner of this new photo contest.  But first, let’s talk about last week’s winner.  Barbara Benson, local historian and author of the book, They Builded Better than They Knew: Historical Perspectives of the Barrington Area, reviewed the submissions for accuracy and chose the guesser whose answer most thoroughly described the Barrington landmarks in last week’s “history mystery photo”.  And the winner is……

322. "Guess Where Wednesday" & Last Week’s Winner

If you’re fascinated by local history and the photos of yesteryear, I hope you’ll enjoy our new mystery photo this week. There’s some history involved with last week’s mystery photo as well and we’ll reveal that winner in just a minute. But first, I want to share this week’s “history mystery” photo. It’s an image that the Barrington Area Library has in its archives. It’s a birdseye view of Barrington taken in the early 20th century.  And if you can name name any of the streets or historic buildings shown in this photograph, you’ll be eligible for this week’s prize.  Plus, there will be a special bonus prize for anyone who can guess where the photographer was standing when he took this picture!
I’ve asked a local Barrington historian to review today’s mystery photo and we’ll share her analysis when we reveal the winner on Wednesday of next week.  We’ll also get to our new prize in just a minute. But first, let’s talk about last week’s winner. Just moments ago we drew the winning name and it is……

238. Guess Where Wednesday" & Last Week’s Winner

It’s funny how powerful the senses can be. Beautiful music that brings back memories of my childhood makes me well up the minute I hear it. When I’m feeling nervous on an airplane and my husband holds my hand, I instantly feel (a little) more relaxed. And the smell of my parents’ house on Thanksgiving tells me, unmistakably, that I am home.  So I thought this would be an appropriate mystery photo for Thanksgiving week.

Can you guess where in Barrington I took this picture? You’ve probably driven past this sign a million times and we have a great prize for the winner of this new photo contest. We’ll get to this week’s prize in a minute. But first, let’s talk about last week’s winner. Just moments ago we drew the winning name and it is……

So it’s clear to me now that local history is no mystery in Barrington! We had a record-breaking number of guesses come in last week when we published our “mystery photo” from the Barrington Area Library archives. More on that in a minute. But first, we have an AWESOME prize for the winner of our new mystery photo contest. So let’s get to it! I cropped this picture to make it a little more challenging. Can you guess what this is a picture of?

We’ll get to this week’s prize in a minute. But first, let’s talk about last week’s winner. Just moments ago we drew the winning name and it is……

We’re going back in time for this week’s “Mystery Photo” here at 365Barrington.com. This picture comes straight from the Barrington Area Library’s archive of historic photos. You can’t take a picture like this today because this building is no longer standing. But if you’ve been in Barrington a while, this one will probably be obvious. Can you guess what this is a picture of?

We’ll get to this week’s prize in a minute. But first, let’s talk about last week’s winner. Just moments ago we drew the winning name and it is……

217. "Guess Where Wednesday" & Last Week’s Winner

Last Wednesday’s Halloween mystery photo here at 365Barrington.com was a tough one. You really needed your thinking cap to figure out where the photo of those two little chocolate ghosts was taken. But we have a winner and a great new prize for this week’s contest. We’ll get to those in a minute. But first, here is our new mystery photo of the week. I found something with a football theme to mark the end of a great Bronco’s Football season. Can you guess where I was when I took this picture?

We’ll get to this week’s prize in a minute. But first, let’s talk about last week’s winner. Just moments ago we drew the winning name and it is……
