“It’s fun! I like writing the characters,” says six year old Evan Weisheit of his Mandarin Chinese class at Language Stars, a flourishing and “fun” language immersion program serving kids from ages one to ten in Barrington.
Evan, who is also learning Spanish and French, is one of nearly 200 students enrolled in Language Stars, located on Northwest Highway, just east of Barrington Road.
“We first tried Language Stars out when he Evan was six months old,” says his Mom, Jill Weisheit. “We just really loved how they do learning through play.”
Evan started this program when he turned one and his three-year-old sister, Iris, now joins him, taking Spanish and Mandarin Chinese classes.
Jill adds, “It’s fun. The kids love it. And when Evan said that he wanted to try a third language, I think that speaks volumes of the program here.”
Open House Weeks at Language Stars runs from today, Monday, January 14th through January 27th. While free trials are offered all year long to new families, during this month’s Open House Weeks, your child will participate in a free trial class, plus they’re offering special daily tours of Barrington’s Language Stars center.
During Language Stars Open House Weeks, you’ll also receive a special gift to take home for you and your child and you can enter a Giveaway for a chance to win a brand new iPad Mini. Any new families who enroll during Open House Weeks also get $100 off their winter/spring tuition. And it’s a really great way to get to know the team of teachers specially trained to make learning languages fun for kids.
When you walk through the halls at Language Stars, you constantly hear the students singing, laughing and shouting out loud numbers, colors and other sentences in a variety of languages. And the concept is called “fun-immersion”, according to the program’s director in Barrington, Brittany Gignac.
“Our classes are taught in the language 100% of the class time. They’re playing games, singing songs, making art projects, but they’re doing it all in the target language.”
The school offers five languages, Spanish, French, German, Mandarin Chinese and Italian to children ages one to ten. The classes are limited to eight students per class allowing teachers to give more one-on-one attention to each child throughout the course of the class. Brittany says, “Because the classes are small, the teachers can work with them individually to make sure they’re being challenged appropriately.”
The Barrington location at 117 E. Northwest Highway is just one of fourteen Language Stars centers in the Chicago area.
