There was a tremendous turnout for the highly anticipated 2013 Relay for Life of Barrington American Cancer Society fundraiser on Friday night. The community showed up, in force, to support cancer survivors and help raise funds to find a cure. Participants walked the track at Barrington High School for hours, many camping out for the overnight event.
There was no shortage of fun and entertainment at this year’s Relay, from live music to cake decorating to “Mr. Barrington” and “Project Relay” fashion events. And the Relay was the scene of our very first 365Barrington TV report, covered by our new reporter, of BHS-TV fame, Catherine Goetze.
Catherine talked with many who took part about what a significant impact the Relay for Life has in our community.
The official dollar amount of funds raised in this year’s Relay is not available yet, but Relay Chair, Eleanor Anne Sweet, says we’re on track to exceed goals and break records. She also stresses that the fundraising is not over yet. For the first time ever, the Relay Committee is planning a Golf Outing which will take place on August 26th at Makray Memorial Golf Club.
And there’s still time to support the cause by making a donation to any of the teams that walked this year. CLICK HERE to find the full list of teams and, for more information about upcoming Relay events, visit their website at RelayforLifeofBarrington.org.
For one last look back at Relay for Life of Barrington, 2013, we have a photo gallery with dozens of images taken by 365 Barrington contributor and photographer, Julie Linnekin. Thanks to all who took part for making Relay for Life of Barrington one of the biggest and best American Cancer Society Relay events in the state of Illinois.
