Have you ever been to a New Mexico Hatch Chile Roast? Here’s your chance! Heinen’s Fine Foods will be firing up their roaster this weekend and is inviting us to the 2-day party to celebrate the start of the New Mexico Hatch Chile season and the return of these peppers to their produce department here in Barrington.
Heinen’s calls New Mexico Hatch Chiles “The Southwest’s best kept secret” and they’ll be roasting the chiles and offering delicious tastings (while supplies last) outside their Barrington store from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday, August 17th and Sunday, August 18th.
Hatch Chiles are grown only in the fertile Hatch Valley of New Mexico. They’re considered by Chile aficionados to be the best roasting peppers in the world.
New Mexico Hatch Chiles are large, thick skinned, meaty and come in a variety of heat levels to suit every chile-lovers craving. Heinen’s produce experts say the Melissa’s authentic Hatch Chiles they offer are truly delicious, with a distinctively robust and earthy flavor not found in any other chile. They recommend that we try them in rellenos, burgers, omelets, hot dogs, burritos, tacos, on pizza, corn bread, cookies, sauces and seafood, but they’re only available for a limited time!
Every September, you can hear the popping and crackling of Hatch Chiles roasting in specialized chile roasters throughout the towns of New Mexico. Grocery store parking lots, street corners and seemingly everywhere, you can smell the aroma of roasted chiles. Once roasted, this spicy vegetable makes beautiful soups and stews.
