Here’s a look at the other stores you’ll find inside this week’s paper, according to Barrington Suburban Life reporter, Tarah Thorne…

Barrington Animal Hospital celebrates 80 years
Take a peek into the longtime veterinary and emergency facility that serves cats and dogs. Doctors and clients open up about the sense of community embedded within such a broad treatment center.

Is the real estate market back?
Check out home sales compared to last year. Most area real estate markets saw increases in the number of homes sold and the median safe price in May, compared with the same month a year before.

Time to Uncork
The Barrington Village Association is gearing up for its annual summer bash – Uncork Barrington. Wine lovers read up to learn about this year’s VIP tickets, featured sips, sampling passport, souvenir and more.

A giant ride
Preview the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Great America. Climbing to the top of an 180-foot drop may be enough of a thrill for the average dare devil, but this ride reaches 72 mph. Fun fact – this is the first new ride to the theme park in a few years.

Chopped
Culinary fans gathered at the Barrington Area Library Thursday to test their skills in a cooking contest. A professional chef judged each dish, made with mystery ingredients, and handed out awards in creative categories, like “best taste” or “best presentation.” We captured the event in photos.
