282. 41st Annual Art in the Barn Opens This Weekend!

Home Newsroom 282. 41st Annual Art in the Barn Opens This Weekend!

The 41st annual Art in the Barn two-day fine art show opens this weekend on the grounds of Advocate Good Shepherd hospital. The weather forecast for Saturday and Sunday calls for sunny skies and 75 degrees so it’ll be a beautiful weekend of shopping for works from over 170 juried artists!

Presented by the Auxiliary of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Art in the Barn is a great place to start your holiday shopping early or simply treat yourself to something new. The show is fun for the entire family, with entertainment and activities like a petting zoo for kids. A $5 entrance charge at the petting zoo includes a cup of food to feed to the animals.

New this year is a local children’s art gallery including work from two chosen elementary artists from each of the District 220 Barrington elementary schools. These works will be framed and showcased near the weigh station. And there will be an art tent with supplies where children can create their own masterpieces.

Art in the Barn will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 26th and Sunday, September 27th.  Admission is $5.00 at the door and children age 12 and under are admitted for free. Art in the Barn began in 1974 when a group of ten women and local artists came up with the idea to help raise money to build the hospital here in Barrington. It started as a show with 30 artists and has grown to over 170 artists displaying their works for sale with nearly 7,000 visitors expected to attend over two days.  The art is featured in barns that were once used as food testing sites when the hospital property was previously owned by Quaker Oats.  Proceeds from Art in the Barn have been put to good use over the years like providing scholarships for students entering the medical field.

You’ll find Art in the Barn on the grounds of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital at 450 W. Highway 22.  That’s east of Kelsey Road and west of Rte. 59 in Barrington.  For more information CLICK HERE to find Art in the Barn’s Facebook page or visit their website at artinthebarn-barrington.com.
