When the new year rolls around we start all over again in our search for 365 reasons to celebrate being in Barrington. We’re starting off with a new year’s toast to Paris Market Antiques in the Ice House Mall. They have hundreds of vintage crystal glasses from from all over the world to help spark that spirit of celebration every day.
Paris Market Antiques owner, Gwendolyn Whiston says their Old European crystal including French, Bavarian and Austrian crystal is popular with shoppers today. Buyers used to want the water glasses, but Gwendolyn says today they’re choosing more petite pieces to hold smaller quantities of wine for sipping. “Today nobody wants a big huge glass of one wine,” Gwendolyn says. “They want to taste wines so they want either the port or the sherry or the claret glass for enjoying smaller portions.”
Gwendolyn is like an encyclopedia of antiques and she welcomes all to come shop her selection. Pick up a piece of stemware and she’ll tell you its story. Whether it was manufactured by the oldest glassmakers in Europe like Crystal Saint-Louis, Baccarat or Lalique in France, Waterford in Ireland, Stevens & Williams in England, Steuben or Cambridge Glass from America and beyond. She has stemware from everywhere. You can pick, choose and create your own collection, learning as you go.
