Heinen’s Shopping Cart Favorites | Bill Herr’s Salad Bar Lunch Stop

Chicagoland Wealth Manager and long-time Lake Barrington resident, Bill Herr is the latest Heinen’s Grocery shopper we surprised with a $25 gift card. It’s all part of our mission to find out what fellow shoppers love to put in their grocery carts.

I spotted Bill by the salad & sides bar and struck up a conversation during lunch hour. Bill says Heinen’s Salad Bar is his one of his favorite local lunch spots because there are so many options to help him stick with healthier eating. He says cutting calories, carbs and cholesterol is easier with Heinen’s ready-to-go selections, which have helped him reach weight loss and fitness goals.

Bill’s favorites from Heinen’s Salad Bar include their Kale & Quinoa Salad, a great source of Vitamins A & C, packed with dried cranberries, blueberries, green kale, quinoa, veggies, spices and reduced fat feta cheese. He also recommends the Honey Bowtie Pasta Salad, which is high in Vitamin C and Heinen’s Barley Lime Salad with walnuts & almonds or Falafel Bites for protein.

Bill didn’t hesitate when I asked him how he’d splurge with an extra $25 at Heinen’s. “I love their craft beers, especially anything brewed by our neighbors over at The Wild Onion Brewery in Lake Barrington.” Good call, Bill, and cheers to Barrington’s own brewmasters!

In the meantime, thank you for sharing, happy shopping and see you at the salad bar, Bill!

  1. I love Heinens meat and seafood department. Always so fresh and delicious. Plus I love that I can have a glass of wine while I shop. Definitely keeps me in the store longer and it’s like a mini getaway during the afternoon.

Hi! 😁 Today's Word of the Day is 汉语 hàn yǔ -- literally "Han Language."

So, we're backtracking... or maybe just following the path of yesterday's post 😂. Either way, it might behoove you to know the context of this word.

The 汉 hàn in 汉语 refers to the Han ethnic group -- the largest of the 56 (government-proclaimed) Chinese ethnic groups. Some data have indicated that Han people comprise 90% or more of the population. So, it's unsurprising that this large group has gotten to name one of the most common terms for Mandarin. (Remember, Mandarin is what we learn at BHS and is the official language of China. There are other dialects/languages in existence.)

Anyhoo, the point is that if one is going to be referring to Mandarn Chinese as a language, it wouldn't hurt to know how to say it two ways! 🙃

普通话 and 汉语 can be used in most of the same contexts -- 汉语 might be a little less eloquent, but you won't get in trouble for using either. 🙂
