[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_text_separator title=”Welcome to This Day in Barrington History” title_align=”separator_align_left”][vc_column_text]Good morning and welcome to February 14th and Day 45 of 365 in Barrington, Illinois! You’ll find our stories of the day – past, present & future (events) – right here on today’s DailyPage. Because every day has its own rhythm, we’re sharing a song of the day here at 365Barrington.com.
On this day, February 14th in n AD 269, Saint Valentine of Rome died. The Feast of Saint Valentine was established by Pope Gelasius I in AD 496 to be celebrated on February 14 in honor of Saint Valentine who was imprisoned for ministering to Christians persecuted under the Roman Empire in the third century.
According to an early tradition (and Wikipedia), “Saint Valentine restored sight to the blind daughter of his jailer. Numerous later additions to the legend have better related it to the theme of love: an 18th-century embellishment to the legend claims he wrote the jailer’s daughter a letter signed “Your Valentine” as a farewell before his execution; another addition posits that Saint Valentine performed weddings for Christian soldiers who were forbidden to marry.”
Either way, we’re loving Saint Valentine’s legacy of showing affection to those who need it most… even when sometimes those who need it most may be our own spouses! We’re celebrating Saint Valentine’s impact with our song of the day, The Spencer Davis Group’s ‘Gimme Some Lovin’, which feels like a celebration to us!
