265. Spot the Scarecrow: A Straw Man for 3 Reasons

There are only a few days left to vote for who you think should win the Village of Barrington’s annual scarecrow design competition. So we have time for one last Spot the Scarecrow mystery photo contest. One Barrington business designed their scarecrow with a Ride for 3 Reasons theme this year in honor of Bob Lee, who is wrapping up his 2,000 mile bike ride down the Pacific coast this week.

If you can guess outside what Barrington business we spotted the 3 Reasons scarecrow, you’ll have a chance to win a prize linked to the place where we took the picture.  Take a minute to look for the clue you’ll find under his armpit.  You can greatly increase your odds of winning just by picking up the phone ;)!
Bob Lee is getting closer, but he has yet to reach his goal of raising $1 Million to support initiatives related to cancer, ALS and Hospice end-of-life care. He still has to raise about $100,000 in individual donations to unlock $200,000 of matching funds that have been pledged to the cause if Bob can reach his goal. Bob says every little bit helps and he’s looking forward to visiting with supporters at his welcome home party, which is coming up from 4 to 5 p.m. at Good Shepherd Health and Fitness Center on Saturday, November 3rd.  To learn more about the ride and support the cause, visit 3Reasons.org.
And if you know where we took the picture of this week’s 3 Reasons scarecrow, all you have to do is enter your guess below for a chance to win.  But first, we just drew the name of last week’s winner and it is……

260. Spot the Scarecrow: Remembering Whitney Houston

It’s Wednesday and that mean’s it’s contest day here at 365Barrington.com. We’re playing another round of Spot the Scarecrow this week. It’s our usual mystery photo contest with a fall twist.  For a chance to win, all you have to do is tell us where in Barrington we spotted this scarecrow tribute to deceased diva, Whitney Houston. A local business designed her for the Village of Barrington’s annual scarecrow competition. Can you guess where she is?

If you can tell us where Whitney is perched, you have a chance to win a prize worth $60 from the business who designed her.  Whitney is one of dozens of scarecrows hanging around town these days.  Voting for the Village of Barrington’s annual scarecrow design contest is underway now.  You have until October 31st (Halloween) to cast your vote by CLICKING HERE and they’ll announce the winners on the Village web site on Thursday, November 1.
And you may still wondering where we took this last Spot the Scarecrow mystery photo……

247. Guess Where Wednesday: It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane…

With this week’s mystery photo, we want to see how many of you really know the Barringtons because it’s pretty hard to miss this giant orange smiley face if you’re driving past one place that’s pretty popular this time of year. I cropped the photo to try to fake you out, but this one might be obvious. Can you guess what it’s a picture of?

If you correctly guess this week’s mystery photo, you have a chance to win a prize linked to the place where we took the picture.  So good luck with your guessing and we’ll let you know the answer when we reveal our new mystery photo on Wednesday of next week.
Now for last week’s mystery photo. This one was a stumper! For the first time in the history of our Wednesday mystery photo contests here at 365Barrington.com, no one submitted a guess. So it’s my fault for being difficult.  I just couldn’t help but share this image I recently took while on Park Avenue after I recently spotted the same building in an historic photo of downtown Barrington.  The initials, E.C. Groff, and the year, 1907 are rusty reminders of years gone by.

Several different businesses used to be housed in this building.  Does anyone remember when it was the old Ben Franklin store?  I love how the facade of today’s McGonigal’s Pub building (off in the distance in the photo below) currently looks as it did so many years ago when it was the First State Bank of Barrington……

244. Guess Where Wednesday: A Little Barrington History

I was inspired to mix a little Barrington history with our mystery photo contest after sharing our story about Sam and the history of the Bread Basket earlier this week.  You’ll get a little clue to this week’s mystery photo if you take a closer look at that feature.  This might not be a very revealing photo, but the building holds so much local history.  Can anyone guess where I was standing when I took it?

If you can guess where I was standing, the business you’ll find in this building today or the bustling business that used to occupy the building in the 20th century, you could win this contest!  The prize is something linked to the place where I took the picture.  I’ll admit, you might have an advantage if you know your Barrington history. But, either way, we hope you’ll venture a guess, which is easy to do using the comments box below.
In the meantime, we drew a name to pick a winner from last week’s mystery photo contest and the winner is……
