213. Say Hi to Sam at the Bread Basket

We had a lot of fun watching the guesses come in for our recent mystery photo contest. Exactly two weeks ago, we challenged you to tell us if you know the guy in this picture…

The contest rules were simple: Correctly guess the place where I took the photo and, if you could also share the guy’s name, you’d be entered in our drawing twice.  It was a little bit of an experiment and I was excited to see that dozens of people guessed it right!
I was standing inside The Bread Basket restaurant in downtown Barrington when I snapped the picture. And most guessers also knew that the man in the picture is the restaurant’s owner, Sam Nikolaidis. A few of them went a little further, offering Sam a few words of praise with their answers.
“It is SAM at the Bread Basket. He’s a mind reader. When I walk in, he tells me what I want before I even look at the daily specials board. And he’s usually right!”  – Eric Hochstein
“It’s Sam from the Bread Basket! My earliest memory is sitting in one of those booths as a 3 year old having a Bread Basket breakfast.”  – Nick Sauer
“It’s Sam Nikolaidis from the Bread Basket! He’s my go-to Sunday lunch guy and has been for a long, long time.”  – Karen McBride

The Bread Basket has been a downtown Barrington staple since it opened in the 1920’s. We’re going to be sharing more about the restaurant’s history and its menu in the coming weeks here at 365Barrington.com so stay tuned.
We received dozens of submissions in this contest, Sam is buying lunch for the winner, we just drew a name and it is……

238. Guess Where Wednesday" & Last Week’s Winner

It’s funny how powerful the senses can be. Beautiful music that brings back memories of my childhood makes me well up the minute I hear it. When I’m feeling nervous on an airplane and my husband holds my hand, I instantly feel (a little) more relaxed. And the smell of my parents’ house on Thanksgiving tells me, unmistakably, that I am home.  So I thought this would be an appropriate mystery photo for Thanksgiving week.

Can you guess where in Barrington I took this picture? You’ve probably driven past this sign a million times and we have a great prize for the winner of this new photo contest. We’ll get to this week’s prize in a minute. But first, let’s talk about last week’s winner. Just moments ago we drew the winning name and it is……
